Blogging In Hateland
The Book of Romans, it is used
to claim I must obey 'em.
But when I see my government
I'm more inclined to flay-em.
They round up Mexicans and those
who documents are lacking.
Instead of loving these they want
to give them a good smacking.
Bloggers here in Alamance,
racist rhetoric are spurtin'
They often use such hateful stuff,
words that are really hurtin'.
Not all conservatives are thus,
some can be quite lovin'
But Haters, up their bums, I say,
their keyboards should be shovin'
"Parasites intestinal!", Termites"
and "Rotten peasants!"
These and other names they fling
It's really quite unpleasant.
When I object, scriptures they quote
"God appointed all our leaders!"
But if that's true why did he choose
a bunch of bottom feeders?
Immigration bothers some who
are not rabid haters.
And we who welcome immigrants
are not a band of triators.
But we in Alamance it seems
are badly out of luck
for he who leads the movement
'gainst them is a redneck schmuck
At thetimesnews.com you'll read
the blog that I've been writin'.
And you can read the racist putz
that I have been a' fightin'
If you click "Blogs" and scroll on down
and click on "Readers' Forums"
Then look up top, click "blogs" again
and now you are a tourin'
through the madmen's cyberland
where racists are a roarin'.
and the passive sit right by
so softly, softly snorin'
My little Rat he bravely stands
and cries for "Ratvolution!"
The longer I'm in Alamance
the more that's my solution.

just a little aside
did you know that pearls before swine is a quote in the bible, I thought that was interesting. raskin
Yep, but we have no choice
Yep.
Jesus said not to cast our, etc.....
But as you know, we poets have no choice.
the wonderful thing
about creativity is the ability to look at something in a different way, recreating the choice I suppose, refashion it, see it under a new light, I think it can be said to be inspired choice. I am an eternal optimist though and tend to reimagine things. raskin
I think you are a little bit confused
concerning the difference between legal immigration and illegal entry into the U.S. Legal immigrants are welcome, illegals are not. Makes no difference their ethnicity. If they are hear illegally they should treated like any other law breaker and treated accordingly.
Not confused. Just wondering.
In the poem I was refering the hate language used by some.
If you will go to the blog you will see what I mean.
The poem was not about the immigration debate, but about hate speech.
I am not a bit confused , except to wonder why a woman who I know, who was brought here at age 3 and raised as an American, now has to be deported to a country that she does not know and lose everything she has worked for, including perhaps her son who was born as a citizen.
sorry I had to step in
Don't you think that right now we live in a time of great fear and that fear translates into the inability to fashion a judgement based on the situation. I see this in my line of work the fear that leads to paralysis of thought. I'm rambling, good poem to spark a bit of debate though. raskin
I Agree
I agree
The problem here in Alamance County NC is that the debate has become quite nasty. Some people who disagree with my pro-immigrant views have even publically urged others to call the school where I teach and complain to my supervisors.
I hope that on this site we can be more accepting of differences of opinion.
