It's Raining
Why does it always rain
Cats and dogs?
Cats and dogs.
Cats and dogs.
Why can’t it rain a more
Aquatically compatible selection – like
Lobsters and jellyfish?
No.
It’s raining cats and dogs.
Perhaps the term was coined by an
Insatiable pet owner
Hoping to cement both species
Within human culture for
As long as the rain should fall.
That’s right, isn’t it?
Or perhaps it was conjured
By a raving psychotic
Whose only unalterable thought
Was that of dropping household pets
From very, very, very high places.
No wonder children have trouble
Falling asleep at night,
With visions of
Fido and Cuddles and Randy
Falling splat – splat – splat –
On the concrete pad out back.
Leap frogs and pollywogs.
Horses and humming birds.
Alpacas and boas.
All with more exotic flare
And less emotional baggage.
Why not those?
It’s raining cats and dogs.
Cats and dogs.
Cats and dogs.
Never dogs and cats.
Cats and dogs.
I wonder if
The first thing to hit the ground
Will be their poop?
It’s Raining
