Dimples and Hard Rocks

Dimples and Hard Rocks
Mark Pearce (c) 2009

Shhhh.

Don’t tell anybody else
Where the treasure is.

It’s a secret.

Take off your tennis shoes.
Socks too.
And scruntch your toes in the mud over here.

You can feel a few rocks in it, can’t you?
Feels good.
Scratchy good.

There a lot of sandstone around here
Sandstone is kind of a rock
But kind of not.
Not a hard rock.
You can break it.

We need to dig until we find the treasure.

I uncovered this little piece of white rock.
It looks like a tooth.
That means there’s something down there.

Take this stick and start digging.
When the hole’s big enough to crawl into –
Big enough to make a house out of it –
Then we’ll give up
If we haven’t found the treasure by then.

But even if we don’t find the treasure
It’ll be a neat place to go
When everybody else is mad.

Our own little hole
In the ground.
