THE SEVEN SWORDS OF SIN

When you hold yourself so high
That no one else can compare,
When the tentacles of pride
Replace the notion of fair.
Appreciate then unwind
Your respect for those akin,
So in the end, in your mind
You draw the first sword of sin.

When you want more than you have
And another has it all,
And it fills you full of wrath
Because none of it is yours,
Admit your enviousness
And the world won’t seem so dim.
When you conquer selfishness.
That’s the second sword of sin.

When you hunger all the time
And you eat but don’t get full,
And you ignore every sign
Of this gluttony until,
Death encroaches far too close
And it seems you cannot win,
Then, from life you take the most.
And draw the third sword of sin.

When desires of the flesh
Corrupt urges of the loins,
And the lust, you’re in suggests
That hell’s begging you to join.
Then you opt for more meaning
And maturity begins,
Aware that, what you’re dreaming
Is in the fourth sword of sin.

When you’re upset and seething
And your anger takes control,
And it amplifies breathing
And consumes your mortal soul.
Then the hand you want to play
Forces hate too throw all in,
Then you stop, and walk away
Holding the fifth sword of sin.

When your greed operates you
And you claw to get ahead,
Eventually, you’ll rue
This avarice, and instead,
Offer more then you can take
Until your booty wears thin,
Then you’ll discover, your fate
Includes the sixth sword of sin.

When you just can’t be bothered
To get in, and have a go,
And your health becomes horrid
As your sloth begins to show,
Mastering your potential
‘Till you hear the other hymn,
Will always be essential
Too find seven swords of sin!
