Our Peter Murray

Our Peter Murray
By Linda R. O’Connell

In this humble town of ours so dear
This mans livelihood, so revered
Has there ever been a man so sweet?
Around the corner, on Linden street
The day breaks and rises at dawn
Beginning his day, and nary a yawn
Long hours seem to wade away,
No kinder man, throughout his day
Never a gripe or a mean word
From this man was ever heard
Familiar faces and happy smiles
This sweet man has so much style
The Captain knew, since he began
Peter would be a dedicated man
A pound of shrimp a lobster tail
An entire mackerel, to descale
Kindest words, and friendly hellos
Oh, upon us, what he bestows
This town is lucky, there is no one sweeter
Than this man that we call Peter.

Happy Birthday Peter

I can almost remember #50.

Pete

DEBS, Thank you so much. you know, just even a year ago, i wouldnt have been able to write something like this for a 50th birthday present, let alone stand up and read it infront of 50 people....it felt so great to be able to do this. Mostly great, to tell him how we all feel about him!
the whole town adores him!
debs i appreciate your comments always!

I love this one, Linda...

this is a different style from your usual and it is very, very good. It reads well and says a lot. Nicely drawn character study with excellent rhymes.

Dave

Yes, actually I read it to him at the surprise party that was given for him last night. He was standing next to me holding the microphone as I read it to him. He was crying, he was so touched...you gotta know this guy..hes a sweetheart!
I read it nice and slow, And when I finished reading, 50 people stood up and clapped for Peter. It was an awesome feeling!
I made a copy and framed it for him and his dad wants one and Captain Marden himself...the owner of the fish market.
Peter is truly an example of a loving soul in this town!
"The Real Deal", kind of person
Thanks Dave for reading it and liking it
I appreciate your comments!
