One Bite Is All It Took

One Bite Is All It Took

I grazed against a branch
And plucked a fig from the tree
Gently placed it to my lips
Right then, I tasted Italy

Suddenly I felt the sunshine
Beneath the thickened skin
Oozing golden, honeyed jam
Stimulating, the juices within.

I ached for so much more
Of what seemed to be forbidden
My frantic tongue explored
The succulence I’d been given.

Inside the fleshy mellow shell
One bite was so sublime
Like I stood atop the cliffs in Sicily
And saved my spirit, just in time.

I seemed to savor the oceans
And I caressed the rolling waves
I came to know a certain love
By the hunger in my veins

Was I ever really alive before?
Was I conscious of my soul?
This little bud affected me
And my devoted heart it stole.

Think of my time there! It is a beautiful country Linda, I hope you get the chance to return there soon.

I'm so glad

Dave, I'm touched that you felt this way from reading my poem about Italy!
I think anyone who has ever experienced being there might be able to relate like you and me.
There really isnt any way to truly describe it.
Thanks for reading this piece Dave
Your comment brought a smile!

So bite me... LOL

LOL

"chomp"...crunch crunch

Tinker time

Pretty good, Linda, but I'd work on the last line and make it a bit less forced.
Also, you say the little bud affected me, but I thought it was the fig.

I really like that this experience has given you a rebirth of sorts. That really shines in this piece.
