Golden Hues

Golden hues on tips of trees
And fiery red throughout the breeze
Barely a chill is in the air
Nearing the end of summers glare

Dancing all around the leaves
Orange begins to knit and weave
Colors strewn across the sky
Summers way of saying goodbye

Shorter days and longer nights
Something in the air, feels just right
A new beginning, a fresh start
October lives inside my heart

Burning leaves delight my senses
Pumpkins all around the fences
Apples ripen a blushy pink
Everything seems to be in sync

Acorns drop and decorate the street
Crunching underneath my feet
Squirrels scurry to hide their food
Everyone in a splendid mood

And growing underneath the sun
Their roly poly shapes so fun
Conjuring up a sweet romance
Squashes, oh they do enhance!

Musty smells in the atmosphere
God, I love this time of year
Brisk weather is up ahead
Blankets of leaves in the flower beds

Abundant ripeness so profound
Tired flowers seem to hang around
Cooler temps have entered in
Herb gardens wearing thin

The vast horizon a picture book
Glorious vistas everywhere I look
Wonders in the earth and sky
Autumns beauty in my eye.

Temperate Climes

Linda,

For a person living in a temperate climate, where the brown and russet of some croton plant leaves show me that leaves can be other than green, you weave an enchanting pitcure.

I like your descriptive style, underpinned by a lovely rhythm.

Dolan

Hi Dolan

Thank you very much. It is gorgeous here in the Fall, it could almost bring tears to your eyes...just wish it would last longer...
Thanks for your kind comments, always appreciated!

You have done well to tweak my memories of autumn in New England. Those are surely special times that we don't get down here in Florida, what we get is this damned persistent Tropical Storm Fay. Man is it dreary here..she needs to get her ass out of here.

Well done,

Pete

Thanks Pete

I appreciate your comment on this piece. too bad about Tropical Fay hitting your area...we just finished 3 weeks of rain so i know what you mean...
thanks!
Linda

A crisp seasonal work, Linda.

But I thought you lived on the coast where the leaves don't turn.
