Waxing denial

As the slipper fell, so too my heart for want of an explanation,

It had been a scant few hours since we met but I felt we were destined to be.

All that was left was the smell of your perfume and a remembered glimpse of a reflected image in the pale moonlight.

Darkness clouded my judgement as I bade all to step aside while you were found,

Alas I now know that you were there all the time;

Hidden, behind the mask that you arrived in; packed up with the rest as my anger bade all to leave and to take with them their mannequins.

How sad now that I may have to search until my dying days to rekindle the magic again.

If only I had been able to better express the way I was feeling things may have been so much easier.

But that is the price of my arrogance.
