Saddle Shoe Years
Merry go rounds on playgrounds
Were my childhood’s rage
Penny loafers and saddle shoes
History steps off the page
Hairnets in the lunchroom
Lunch was in there too
Monkeying around on bars
When I was four foot two
Television with dials
Cars without the belts
Drive in movies with swings
This is what my childhood dealt
Church every Sunday
Dinner was not fast food
Playing outside everyday
These years set my mood
Hula hoops and pollywogs
Worms and building forts
Learning with all of me
Playing was not just sports
Rising to the smell of bacon
It is time to make my bed
These moments I will treasure
We didn’t have much, but we were ahead

~School Days~
It is fun to think back on those carefree days. I thought I would never grow up. Okay, now I'm grown up, and I wish I could be a child again. It's so true...our childhood shaped us. It would be great to slip back into the age of the fifties with a 2009 mindset. Do you think we could? I would buy a pair of saddle shoes for the escape backwards.
Warm regards,
Kathy
good times
I think many people reading this will say, 'those were the days'. Its nice because it reminisces about the positive aspects of growing up and reminds us that it wasnt all doom and gloom, you can have very little but it can mean so very much. Its the little things in life we miss that made us who we are.
~Get a Fresh Start, Use Your Heart~
Matt,
Yes, if only we could bring the values of the past into the present. If we can't turn back the clock, at least we could step into a pair of saddle shoes and tell the world, "Hey, slow down and remember how to have fun!"
It doesn't take money, it just takes the time to: climb a tree, skip a rock, roll down a hill, and giggle until you wet your pants. It's all there, we just have to remember how to use our hearts, not our pocketbooks. It's not money that will improve our nature, it is each other.
Thanks for your precious thoughts.
Warm regards,
Kathy
Memories

~Black and White Television~
Debs~
It was the fifties and the world was in black and white, but boy were those colorful times. In just one short life, the world has spun out of control. Do you think we could stop it and get off for awhile?
If we can't stop the world, could we at least celebrate the joys of life for one day. Ah, the comforts of family, nature, and being a child. I imagine that we could get use to these pleasures again.
Can you imagine a television without a million buttons? Remember when going to the mall was opening up a Sears catalogue? Remember when fast food was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?
Oh the joy of memories. Thank God my long term memory still works!
Warm regards,
Kathy

Thank you for dropping by my blog and reading Saddle Shoe Years. I am very glad that you enjoyed it.
The 50's were a great time to be living.
I recently lost my job in Orange County, California and I am looking for a career in writing and/or marketing.
Your compliment made my day.
Warm regards,
