Lady Liberty Sings the Blues
I am not concerned about the jobless
But I am concerned about the hopeless
I am not concerned about the cash
But I am concerned about the stash
I see my children till the soil and plant the seeds
They water their America and tend to her needs
Why has “their liberty” been tossed like a burial at sea?
This my dear America, I am not proud to see
To know so many work daily with the clarity of a saint
They sand, they understand, they renew with paint
Why are they discarded like a pair of old worn shoes?
This is not democracy, this is my nation confused
A rose is not a rose if it does not yield a thorn
Progress is not progress without yielding scorn
How can you find the treasure if you do not have the map?
Has the world gone crazy or are you all just taking a nap?
I am not concerned about the poor
But I am concerned about the poverty
You cannot find justice in fields of tyranny
You cannot find God where there is blasphemy
How dare you strike it rich and throw your workers away
How dare you claim high ethics when morals have gone astray
Many Americans are on the front lines, looking for work
Why have so many been dishonored with their rights being shirked?
Don’t point a finger at the face of Liberty
Don’t mistake entitlement with the laws of integrity
I am not concerned about the face
But I am concerned about the faceless
I am not concerned about grace
But I am concerned about the graceless
Don’t howl at the moon when so many have lost their way
Chart God’s stars and advance to a brand new day
Concern yourself with others
Recover what is lost
It is not about luxury
It is freedom at any cost
I am not concerned about the game
But I am concerned about the team
I demand to be heard
I demand to be seen
I cannot stand idle
While so many are lost
Keep America working
Build bridges that can be crossed
Give me your tired
Give me your poor
I'm standing firm
With God forevermore

Ron,
Thanks for the three exclamation points!!! You know how it is...my heart and head cannot wrap around the terror of the night. Thank God for buddies that write, and let the truth ooze from their being. We need to support each other...and keep on telling it like it is. I am hopeful that we will find answers in our communion with each other.
Always,
Kathy
