I See in You
I see in you the struggle of a century…
The desperate, heavy tears that you shed
and tormented, the ill-illumined byways that you tread
It hurts so much
to see you fight fire with fire
misunderstand misunderstanding
Burrow the cave of your own darkness
To see you fail Plato, Augustine, Aquinas
Childhood dreams become
but a memory of lost leisure
Nescis te, transformed beyond measure.
And your every path mis-taken,
my own shield by arrow shaken.
I see in you the struggle of a century…
Heavy beats, silence you choose to ignore,
and the drink, the nausea, the vomit on the floor.
