The Moors

Over the fields,
Out across the moor,
Treading over
The damp floor.

Clinging to the rocks,
Climbing up the uneven surface,
The wind whipping round my hair
Bitter and crisp.

On top of the rock,
On top of the tor,
I shield my eyes and stare
Out at Dartmoor.

The desolate land
That stretches for miles around,
You can't hear anything
Not a single sound.

This is the place to come
If your head is in a mess....
Just let the wind whistle in your ears
And blow away the stress.

Look at all the clear colours,
The gorse and the heather,
Vibrant yellow and purple,
It's beautiful seeing them together.

All the greens and browns
Merging into one.
Your eyes go funny
And, in the blink of an eye, they're gone.

See the ponies graze
Their coats muddy and wild,
They stare at you out of meek eyes
Seeming to be mild.

Look at the sheep
Huddling in a flock.
Have they seen a predator?
Or are they in shock?

Spy the cattle
Little dots on the hill,
Munching the grass
At their own will.

If you're feeling in a muddle
The moors is the best place to be,
I always come here
Because no one can disturb me.

If you just want something
To blow those cobwebs away
Then the moors is the place to go
Night or day.

Everything seems so simple
Out on the moors, the silence is comforting
For a moment you can forget
How much you're hurting.

Come to the moors
If you're feeling blue,
You don't even have to think
Just stare at the view.

You can't help but smile
For you feel so peaceful inside,
You can't help but be calm
It's good to be alive.

Dartmoor is my friend
Safe and sure
I think I'll stay here for a while longer
Being a part of the moors.

Sounds like the perfect place to get away from it all!

I wish Florida had moors I could run to. But since it doesn't, I'll settle for the beach! Your poem paints a real enchanting portrait of the moors.

Thank you again ☺

How about you come to the moors for a day and I'll go to the beach?! Thank you for your comment, I'm glad you like it ♥
