Snowflakes in the Sky

White so clear, clean,
Dismissive to rain, ruling supreme...
There's nothing as magic
As waking up, staring out of your window
And gasping for real, it's not a trick
Because all before you is a shawl of snow.
The clouds above drape heavy with the promise of more
Snowflakes like silver pennies come down in galore,
A complete contrast to the scene below
Against the indigo clouds wondrous white snow.
Trees stick out starkly
Imprints of brown and grey
As if someone has sprinkled sugar
A light dusting to stay.
Hedges are the only paths
So you can work out where the roads start
And where the earth ends,
The scent pinching your nostrils
Inhaling the unmistakable smell, so snowy and sharp.
Hear the water, an icy burble
Even the weather can't stop it's warm gurgle,
Snowdrops and shoots none the worse for wear
If rather bedraggled, but who's to care?
Snow settling on the rooftops
A gentle but steady fall,
Everywhere it's being dropped
Catch them on your tongue, but make sure they're small.
A hard flurry we had overnight
8 inches or more fell in a shower of white,
It makes for a beautiful sight
Surprises all round as we see the snow in the coming light.
The sun rising and casting orange shadows
Golden shades and glows,
Shining upon the landscape
The same as always
But it's different as we wake
Today of all days.
Some people say it's a nuisance
A bother, a complete pain,
But we'll all want it back when it's gone
So enjoy it for now
Because it may not come again.
Children sledging
Animals dazed and a tad bemused,
Snowball fights fought
And adults shaking their heads and becoming confused
As they slip on the sleet
And are now in a bad mood.
Everyone having fun
A memorable day
Spending every minute in the snow and sun
Smiles and laughter eventually chasing the cold away.
As evening draws in
And the light fades
More snow descends
Outlining the snowmen made,
As it's being sent
From way up high
Gaze and stare above you
At the snowflakes in the sky.

Thank you Willow, I just had to write it all down as I saw it, everything so stunningly beautiful...and you're a tree who's leaves are like your kindness, constantly there no matter what the weather :) ♥

WOW! I feel as though a blizzard came through, a wintertime delite! AWESOME! your handle fits this poem to a tee "Jewel"
(but if you lived in Phoenix, you'd be writing about a sandstorm...heh)

Thank you Ron

I think I prefer blizzards to sandstorms though! Thanks for your words, you're a sweetie :) ♥
