Sitting in a corner
Unnoticed by everyone,
No one knows you're there
That you're staring at them.
You shrink further down
Until you resemble the floor,
Pushed out,
Left out,
Clutching your hands in despair.
Eyes alight with anguish,
Burning into everyone's backs,
Mouth set in a line
Inside you cry out loud.
They're all laughing and joking
While you're cold and alone,
Left out in the pouring rain
Staring through the window
At the party, warm and inviting,
But no one's invited you.
No one's forgotten you
Because you have to be in someone's mind
To be remembered
Or not.
You were never known,
You were never seen
You could be right in front of their eyes
But still no one would see you.
Turning around you walk slowly away,
No one glances back,
No one stops or pauses,
No one notices your disappearing figure,
Now just a shadow
In the rain.
