Secret of the Sea Stallion

Where are you...
My sea stallion,
One minute you're there
The next, you're gone.
Leaving hoof prints in the sand
For me to follow
I watch the fireflies land,
They know that they won't be there tomorrow.
I've caught glimpses of you
Before you disappear into the mist,
You're completely blue
At first I thought you were just a fish.
Then I saw your turquoise mane and tail
Billowing out like a sail,
Your royal blue body
And your silver feet,
Eyes as dark as indigo
I just want us to meet.
You're fuzzy round the edges,
Before I blink, you disperse,
Walk into the water once more
I've got to see you again, before I burst.
I come down to the shore again
It's almost twilight,
And you appear out of the waves,
You stare at me, your face so human
Dimpsy in the night.
I want to speak, but I can't find the words,
I get the feeling that once there were herds
Of horses of the sea, just like you...
What happened to them?
Will you ever tell me?
You bow your head at me
And I do the same
As I watch the night come in
And into the sea you change.
I stare at the water
Wishing for me to know
The secret of the sea stallion,
But maybe some things are best left unanswered
As I leave the sea
And away I go...
