If I Were in London

If I were in London
What a time I'd have,
My brother says there's all sorts there
Hippies, goths, chavs.

I'd go on the London Eye
High as the sky in my own glass pod,
I'd gawp at all I could see
And just say omigod.

I'd cross the Millennium Bridge,
Marvel at the Tate Modern,
My brother's seen it all....
I can't wait for my turn.

I'd see Westminster
The Houses of Parliament,
Lords and ladies in there so often
I'm surprised they don't have to pay rent.

I'd go right up to Big Ben
Hear its 13 tonne bell strike
The hour and the quarter,
See its face glow luminous in the night.

I'd spy Buckingham Palace
Her Majesty the Queen's home,
Wouldn't that be the life....
No washing or cleaning to do,
No worrying about paying off a loan.

I'd go and see the Crown Jewels
Guarded by the beefeaters,
Be awe-struck by their grandeur
Wouldn't that be superb?

I'd take a run round Hyde Park,
See people busking and miming moving art,
I'd sit in the Covent Gardens,
Watch a play in the Royal Opera House,
Knowing every single line off by heart.
I'd stand beneath Canary Wharf
Feeling as small as one could be,
I'd see the sun glinting on the glaring tiles
Towering over me.

I'd go on a tube
Properly on the Underground,
I'd be crammed in like a sardine
Unable to make a sound.

I'd go to Trafalgar Square
Imagine the famous Christmas tree in the middle of it
Just standing there....

I'd see Nelson's Column,
I'd maybe even catch sight of someone famous
And be struck dumb.

I'd walk past where the Prime Minister lives
Number 10 Downing Street,
I'd see the policemen standing guard outside
If you wanted to nip in for a cup of tea
You'd have to be discreet.

I'd go to Piccadilly Circus
And wander round its massive market,
I'd buy loads of presents for everyone
Wouldn't that be wicked?

I'd get lost in the hundreds of shops
Then see the prices and start sighing...
But even so look some more
After all, there's no harm in trying!

I'd visit Kew Gardens
Full of things from the tropics,
I'd visit all the museums
And come out being a genius on all topics.

I'd see St Paul's Cathedral
Think it huge and wonderful,
I'd see the River Thames
Snaking through the capital
Wondering if it ever ends.

I'd go to the Guild Hall,
Stand in it so small,
I'd see pigeons milling round people's feet
Cooing their recognisable call.

I'd take so many photos
Surrounding me would be this constant flash,
I'd be in a bowled over by all the wonderful sights
I might bump into people and go crash!

One day I'll see all these things,
One day I'll have so much fun,
This is what I would do
And one day will do
If I were in London.

I'm Thinking
