Christmas Get Togethers
Who likes Christmas get togethers?
I certainly don't!
It's always cold and wet
The bother of having to put on an extra coat,
So you can go and see a bunch of strangers
Relatives you've never met before in your life,
Whoever's idea it was to get together
Definitely wasn't bright!
Making small talk
Getting people's names wrong,
Being mistaken for someone you're not
You end up wondering why you went along.
The adults always get drunk,
Men swigging on beer,
Women downing wine,
It's supposed to be a good time of year,
Well, it's so not mine.
The hassle of having to be polite
To the people you usually hear getting verbally bashed
It's awful, the worst ever night
No wonder the place ends up getting trashed!
Pulling crackers
And reading out corny jokes
Having to laugh with people you thought were dead
The really, really old folks.
Aunties kissing you
And saying, “My, haven't you grown?”
While you think up any excuse to escape
Even if it's “Where's the bathroom?”
Though you're in your own home.
The endless hours
Of enduring this torturous trial
Painting a cheesy grin on your face
And physically forcing yourself to smile.
Whoever invented Christmas parties
I really will kill,
Everyone dancing about, thinking they look cool,
When really they just look a fool
As if they've over-dosed on happy pills.
Meeting new in-laws
Different ones each year
To the ones I previously saw
Is totally the utmost bore
While they talk such pointless witterings
I wish I could snap off my own ears.
Standing in a corner
Babysitting “angelic” brats,
Sipping watered down orange juice
Trying to survive the toddler's attacks.
Unable to sneak off
Just for five minutes peace
To collect my sanity
Which seems to have gone east.
Please, save me the embarrassment
Not to mention the harassment,
Because I don't even need time to contemplate
To know that Christmas get togethers
I absolutely hate!

Ho Ho Ho
Whether we like them or not, the holidays
are always filled with deep passion, one way
or another aren’t they. This season, maybe try to focus on
The positives you have in your life, like your
ability to help, and entertain others with your
exceptional writing ability. Yeah, I know what you
mean about the Xmas parties though, sometimes
they can make you come out feeling a little dispirited.
Maybe you could find a church or homeless shelter where
you could volunteer your services to assist them helping others
that are in need. Once we figure out that the real spirit of Christmas
is in the giving and not the receiving, the more it all really starts
to be fun, and meaningful.

Christmas parties are always the only downer for me, bad experiences probably adding to that, but like you said, focus on the positive!
I go to my local church on Christmas Eve, just to think of those that aren't as lucky as most people are at Christmas time.
I never thought of helping out like that, there's a care home for (old) people near where I am, maybe I could give them a bell and see if they need an extra pair of hands....thanks Cristo! ♥
