THE MIRROR’S GLASS
A life spent adrift
On seas with no end
A smothering mist cloaks my mind
Day after day
I have always believed
The truth I would finally find
I’ve been with the crowds
I’ve lived in their world
But never at home I’ve felt there
A stranger I am
A drifter of sorts
And no…I really don’t care
-----------------------------------------------------------
I’ve heard it too many times
To ignore it
There’s something that I’m s’posed to be
Sadness has been my lot
All of my life
For though I try I just can’t see
-----------------------------------------------------------
My eyes open wide
My hand held to touch
So many times as the days pass
I look in the mirror
In search of myself
Who stands there behind the thin glass
Most of the time I see
Tears of myself
In hollowed reflections they stream
But as I grow old
The veil seems to fade
And opens my mind to the dream
-----------------------------------------------------------
I’ve heard it too many times
To ignore it
There’s something that I’m s’posed to be
I kneel and I pray
And I pour out my heart
The ghost of my past I now see
-----------------------------------------------------------
A life long ago
So vaguely I know
Brief glimpses of eons gone by
What could they mean
How could this be
Insanity seems to be why
A peace comes to heart
A poetic start
The Master’s sing out from afar
I’ve nothing to lose
I’ve nothing to fear
I’ll follow the light of their star
-----------------------------------------------------------
I’ve heard it too many times
To ignore it
There’s something that I’m s’posed to be
God make me great
In the sight of mankind
And I will set your people free
-----------------------------------------------------------
The mist clears away
The sea becomes clam
The wind at my back never leaves
The world I must build
As a vision ahead
It beckons and calls out to me
I’ll be what I have to be
Risking it all
For surely my time here will pass
And no one can know
The secret I hold…
Who stands behind the mirror’s glass
