THE EYE OF THE STORM

Once crashed the waves
Of tempest storm
Once blew the wind
As sails were torn
Once drove the rain
Gainst frozen skin
As darkness took
The vessel in

Once void of any
Hope at all
Once trapped inside
The prison’s wall
Once sickle’s steel
And weight of lead
But faintest ray
Shown from ahead

Once in a moment
Skies were clear
Once ocean’s calm
Dispelled the fear
Once warmth of day
Cried all is well
The storm has past
Now mend the sail

Once gave the way
To those who care
Once bent the knee
And found what’s there
Once wine upon
The lees in hand
And from it strength
To make a stand

Once wakened from
A slumber’s sleep
Once wind reversed
Across the deep
Once stared again
At coming black
No where to run
No turning back

Once little deeds
Allowed back in
Once planted seeds
Take root again
More quickly now
The vines do grow
Dragged quickly to
The dark below

Once back inside
The tempest hold
Now worse the winds
Now worse the cold
The brief blue sky
And radiant warm
Twas only the
Eye of the storm
