I Know That It Hurts

I know that it hurts
This place we call earth
Things just don’t work out
From the time of our birth

The pre-made plans
Passed down from another
It could be a mom
A sister, a brother

I know that it hurts
To be misunderstood
Judged by so many
As if they should

I know that it hurts
To let someone down
They expect us to stand
But we often fall down

But what really matters
In this life we’ve been given
Do our thoughts really count
Or have we just been driven

Driven by somebody else’s desires
Is this really how
Our life should transpire
Can we think enough of ourselves
To break away from these manmade shells

Is there a place
Deep down in our soul
Given to us
Our Creator has told

A place where we can uniquely be His
And grow as ourselves
Free to live life amiss
Decisions we make
Some good and some bad
But the freedom to make them
And know that we can

Isn’t that why God put us here anyway
To seek and to find Him
Enjoy night and day

If you find yourself hurting
And you’re doing your best
Maybe someone has bound you
And stolen your zest

God wants you free
His burden is light
Take a look all around you
Tonight is your night

The truth sets you free
Don’t fear to say so
The others were wrong
They don’t own your soul!
