September Morning

I was sitting in the rain
by a old shed, picture it
covered in rust however there was
the Texaco red star bright as can be
It caught my eye through the mist

I saw a man crack a fortune cookie open and
mouthed the words..
"A thrilling time is in store for you"
to his little girl
Off in the distance you can see
the cherry trees glisten with the mornings dew

The father picks up his baby girl with
the turquoise shirt
Little hands fall around his neck
I see eyes glowing from under
the umbrella along with a smile
Its the first day of school
She gets carried in
As the leaves blow across the grass
Off quickly now as she runs to class
