This is London

This land never sleeps
it never grows old
the people don't age
I didn't grow up,
here in this strange land
where time never moves
and life goes onwards
Henry pushes on
and Diatto is king
The Poor take a snake
or a cattle shed
I arrive at the
ancient circus town
and look at the stalls
nowhere near to the lions
they are locked away
I see flamingos
they stalk around, proud
wearing fine feathers
and I see their feed.
I don't miss the past
but i do love now
I fear the future
the animals have
changed.
I'm in the lions den
Nobody helps me
I cannot feel love
I feel only fear
My time has ended
This is Tottenham.
This is London.

Excellent read! You've put

Excellent read! You've put together the soul of the City into these lines, especially with the historical references to Henry and the circus. I loved the meter as well and felt the lines like the cold English rain. Peace, NSF

Loved it! Puts me in
