And Then

When we were young we knew each other's wants without a word,
Anticipated needs and sought to please,
And as the years passed by we stayed sublimely undisturbed,
So comforted, content, and so at ease.

We two have sat in fields grown high and laughed into the wind,
We've danced to many songs, and drank the wine.
We've savored stolen glances, ridden bareback unchagrined,
We've played the games of youth and come out fine.

Now as our days grow shorter, let me say I love you still,
So grateful for the way our lives have been,
For you have shown me love and I believe you always will,
Until the day we part the earth, and then.

Lovely

This is a wonderful poem. Loving someone, memories shared,
and knowing they will always be there.

Our words know us better than we know ourselves...

Very good!

I really enjoyed this poem. The tight format here through me off at first, but after the second read I could easily pick up your rhythm which was spot on for me and the rhymes seemed smooth and unforced. The language was unpretentious and fit well. And the length was good. No more or less than needed. Great write.
