Our last goodbye

The cab ride is long, but not long enough
I wish there was no destination, no getting out
Our fingers play with each other
As if to be saying their own goodbyes

New York never looked so dull before
In a city of ten million there’s only one I care about
I leave here with dreams shattered
I leave with a broken heart

The airport approaches, I struggle to be strong
I’m taking a thousand last looks at your face
I’m telling you what I have always told you
I hope you’ll remember every single word dear

The time has come; I cannot hold back the tears
You hug me and say everything will be all right
I run outside for one last goodbye
You stop, turn, wave, and smile. This is our last goodbye

painful

Simply put. Yet, so poignant and real.
