Unknown Child
It has been years, how have you been
I've thought of you every now and then
You wouldn't have seen me,I moved away
I just got back in town, just got in yesterday
Oh,that's my daughter, she is all grown
You say she looks like one of your own
I see you studying her,and looking at me
You want to ask the question, could it be
Well we're in a hurry,we have to go
It's been years,no need to know
She has a daddy that has raised her with care
He didn't just leave one day,he was there
The child you didn't stay to know you had
Turned in to a beauty and not half bad
As I walk away you say I didn't know
My answer is you didn't have to go

Gloria, my friend
This so reminds me of the song, "All I Want To Do Is Make Love To You," by Heart.
I remember certain lines from that song that remind me of your poem and the situation you're describing.
For instance, to quote that song, "I am the flower,
You are the seed,
We walked in the garden,
And planted the tree...
"Then it happened one day,
We came around the same way...
Imagine his surprise,
(when he laid eyes on his daughter)
And saw his own eyes."
What a beautiful song! And what a beautiful poem you've written, Freespirit, in the same vein!
I've read this poem a time or 2 before, and everytime I have, I've had to listen to that same song.
Great job, Gloria. Really enjoyed reading this one again. TJ
