Enkindle My Heart
~Enkindle My Heart~
In my youth it burned inside me; the passion,
the drive, the red flow of power which carried me,
burning hot and bright, so alive; wild and unconstrained.
It drew you to me; this incandescent light and warmth,
the feeling of life which it lent.
You wanted this light for yourself,
you trapped it as you cooly wrapped your love around me.
For a time I was content to burn only for you,
and a shell formed; blocking this light from all others eyes,
though it was never gone, but slowed,
and it flowed hotly beneath the surface.
You should have known you could never keep me this way,
that love does not diminish or constrain.
You should have known that as you selfishly trapped this fire within,
that it would build,
that love is not about holding power over another.
And now the day has come, the fire rages inside,
cannot be held by the blackened walls you have built.
As it bursts through the walls it destroys not only what you have falsely built,
but destroys you as well as it burns with life too long contained.
Your fall, this burning hurt, the result of your own selfish need.
True love is content to bathe in the light given,
to flow warm and steadily, intermingled within another.
So that in this way true love causes each to burn more brightly,
as one fire feeds another,
as joined in love they are consumed,
in it's all encompassing power and light.
