Before It’s Too Late
~Before It's Too Late~
If the best of ourselves,
the dearest of our possessions,
are saved for a different or better day,
we thereby lend judgment that perhaps today,
even this moment now,is not worthy.
A crimson floor length gown hangs in a darkened closet.
It never graced her lithe body as she danced across the floor.
A fluted crystal goblet sits behind a wall of glass.
It’s cool rim never touched her lips as she drank
the bubbling champagne in a celebratory toast.
A diamond band in a black velvet box lies at the bottom of a drawer
It never circled her finger as a symbol of the love we shared.
I kept waiting for the perfect moment that will now never come.
An argument never reconciled created a rift that never closed.
Pride stood in the way of words that we never spoke.
Forgiveness never granted, now can only be hoped for.
I did not speak the words she needed to hear.
I never saw her eyes light with the assurance that she was loved.
I never showed her that she was worthy of all I had and more.
Many speak on her behalf, words she will never hear.
Expressions of sympathy, a sorrow she will never know
Many minds filled with regret, lessons of a life not fully lived.
Every day is worthy of the best we have to give.

~The Gift of Time~
Jill,
If only people would make time for healing their hurts. To love and not live, is a tragedy.
You always manage to strike a beautiful chord in your verse. You are a master poet.
Warm regards,
Kathy
Work in Progress
Thanks Kathy! It is sad that people save their best for special times or opportune moments, which they sometimes never get to live. My mother in law had a collection of china and gold silverware she never used, she was so proud of it, and it was beautiful. She died of cancer, never having used it. It struck a chord with me, made me sad. What were we saving it for? That's the reason I wrote this.
You are so kind and generous with your comments. I am a constant work in progress...not sure if I'll ever make master, but I won't let it stop me from trying! :)
Jill
Wow!
This is very compelling! I need to read this a couple times to get all the emotions laid out.
This is beautiful, powerful and touching! Wow!
Many Thanks
This one is pretty emotional. I had a hard time with this poem because in order for it to read correctly I had to write from the perspective of the man in the relationship, kind of odd, but I think it worked ok.
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
