Firestorm
Barely keeping my head above water
If it was up to you
I would drown
My name would be smeared
All over town
Condemned to purgatory
For one mistake
A perfect example
For judge and jury
Even so-called saints are fallible.
I never declared my innocence
I'm just a human being
Who had to open his mouth
And let somebody inside
Yet the lie was bound to catch me
With my trousers down.
Somewhat functioning in the real world
I've learned how to be clever
Never reveal the broken man
Behind this armor of steel
I feel like closing up shop
Hibernating for the winter
Meticulously writing a farewell letter
Ceasing all further communication
Quitting the game isn't the easy way out
Of a madness I asked for
Another door will open
That's what the doctors tell me
Six figure incomes for dime store homilies
They can afford to be smug
At least they have a family
What's the cure for my tragedy?
Forget where I came from..
Fairly coherent to the abstract mind
A world where logic isn't allowed
Or regarded in high esteem
Someday my dreams of reconciliation
are bound to come true
Do or die for the sentimental fool
Who unconsciously broke a sacred rule
Thou shall not commit adultery
Wandering eyes shall be removed
Thus see beyond the obvious
Into the soul of a girl
You promised to have and hold
Till death do you part...
Acrimony split us apart
Faith repairs the foundation
A fresh start or a shaky beginning?
We could give each other pat answers
Just to soothe nagging doubts
Yet, we're far too smart
To fall head over heels
For such a hollow ruse
I don't know about you
I'll suffer the blows of rejection
Than mark time suffocating
In a firestorm of confusion.
