Reality Bites

Powerful monster
Unwelcome guest
Try to ignore You
Thoughts You infest
Overwhelming temptation
Outrageous urge
Cannot resist You
Weaknesses surge
Think for a moment
Fleeting and brief
Reason is cloudy
Blind to the grief
Submit to the monster
Put up no fight
Danger is looming
Reality Bites

Emma

Nice write about addiction. I like the way you refer to it as a monster. It is a fight that most can't win. Here in lies the conundrum The fact is to win you must stop fighting and give up. Strange concept but so true. Thanks for sharing

The only time I look down on another is when I am bending to help them up.

addiction?

I see this as an addiction possible to a person. Wanting and denied. As a drug I can relate to that also. but you sum it up in the last line quite well

I always appreciate

I always appreciate comments.... thank you guys so so so much!!!!
Unlike my other submissions, this poem isn't necessarily about drug addiction; it's about the concept of addiction as a whole. So, it can be interpreted and understood from any angle, based on personal experience and opinion.
Isn't that why poetry is so beautiful in the first place....You take from it what you need.
