Bent but not broken
I start each day with the tip of a cup
Coffee is all that I need to wake up
But yawning and sighing I reach for my vice
Knowing inside that I'm rolling the dice
Just a bump to get going, I promise, that's all
Six hours later, an entire eight-ball
My hands won't stop shaking, my pulse growing faster
Where the hell is my dealer? That lazy bastard!
Confirmation comes through, and I go claim my token
I've been on a bender, but I'm still not broken

Poor Emma
I hope this is not real, but if it is then there is help out there, either way your poems show how strong addictions are. I wont claim to understand never being addicted to anything stronger than cigs and sex, but I have seen what it does to others. Good write and a nice read.
Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself.
