pendulum
like the pendulum swings
from left to right,
my character swayed
dark to light.
never hanging level,
in the center or plumb;
pivoting right to over-confident
from left's apathetic and numb.
morphing from quiet and shy,
self conscious and sarcastic;
to talkative, undaunted,
uninhibited and spastic!
falling into a black hole
that had become my life;
i filled with anguish, turmoil,
confusion and strife.
the gusting movement
from one extreme to the other;
had me holding my breath
til i began to smother.
the choices i thought:
were either this side or that.
i concluded center ground
is where i'll hang my hat.
i averaged my qualities;
both nice and unpleasant;
personifying the median;
i hang plumb at the present!
