Ravenous Howl...
Too far apart!
Disfigured by mar
Despise astatic ways
(Florid felicity
Cannot flourish
In a driblet of
Fell duplicity...)
Unfold arduous maze
To reach highland
Covenanted Place -
Finishing providential race.
Not ever stopping
As horse galloping
Spitting, spitting, spitting
In Old Serpent's face!
Rays from Footprints gleaming,
In torturous distance streaming...
Too far apart!
Repulsion of each mar!
Too distant
Hem of Your Cloak
Starved for soft stroke...
Fire within
Needs to be stoked...
Can't touch Pierced Hand,
Stained in Blood sand...
Mend wounds oh! mend...
Euphoric Grassland!
Your Silhouette
On distant shore...
Soul - lapse no more!
Enclose Ring of fire
Crush, burn...
Empty desire...
Silence denier -
Perpetual liar!
The
Sole
Deathless
Inspirer...
........................................................................
Silence my tongue
When I do not speak of Thee,
Make my pen barren
If I fail to "write" of Thee...

Rich semantic content
and fast fetching ideas in this engaging work. In the 2nd stanza attracting multi-connotational expressions ("hem of Your cloak starved for soft stroke," "enclose Ring of fire," "Euphoric Grassland!"). A concise yet fully captivating read indeed in depicting the continuous and painful struggle of the follower of Christ to bridge (with His Helping Hand!) the beyond reckoning gap between God's unbounded goodness and exaltedness and human smallness and finiteness.
Dr. Kardas, your PostScript should be the solemn mantra for all seriously-minded writers. Suitable and engrossing one's attention title.
All the best! Rita
"I am not a self-seeker"...
Dear Rita,
Thank you for interpretively and supportively commenting on "my" written output. The discrepancy between our response as required by the Law of God's unfathomable Love and the inadequacy of our actual response can be experienced by any serious seeker after the Absolute Good (God), as insufferable and agonizing since a sufficient response is never possible by human power alone. As we know, countless saints and mystics wrote extensively on this subject in their well-known works. The unshakable truth that "God alone really frees" is undoubtedly entirely inseparable from, and applicable to the certainty that only God fills the infinite gap between human nothingness and His perfect goodness with grace and love - providing a soul is in inner readiness to accept His boundless bounty and eternal treasures.
May the fire of His love ceaselessly sanctify us... DKK
Keeps the interest going!
Dr. Kardas,
Outstanding expression of chasing after the Absolute... God's absolute goodness. Great phrases and images synchronized in pulsation - rhythm. Love the presentation often unpredictable of important truths. That's what I like about your style... words of major importance, unpredictability and explosive shots of insights! I am sure Our Lord gives this one the thumbs up also!
Celebrating incessantly God's Salvific Work...
Your kind words and comments are gratefully received... This piece was quickly "put together" while listening to the much loved genius (and countryman!) Chopin - No. 12 in C Minor, hence perhaps this is the reason for "pulsation." When attempting to put words on paper, I never know where the Spirit will lead me... Thus, the explosive, unpredictable shots. If I only were a far better listener!
Needless to say, without constantly seeking God, we are "numb and dumb"... lifeless, while without learning to love truly and gradually knowing Him more, we remain in perilous stagnation and darkness.
May His all-healing and all-knowing Grace rest constantly upon us... DKK
Humility is the key!
Welcome back Dr!
Thank you for this mind awakening & stirring poem with straightforward admonitions, directives & promising declarations. This work shows that the surest way to God is a humble knowledge of ourselves. We are nothing else but a speck of dust in the universe! The sooner we realize that, the greater chances we have for God filling us with special graces, true knowledge, love etc. I also love the stepped up rate filled with insights & great... so true insightful completion. Let us all keep spitting in Satan's face!!!!
God bless...
Humility puts the Evil One to flight!
Thank you for thoughtful, encouraging remarks and emphasizing with prudence the importance of the virtue of humility. Without a doubt, the Evil One is effectively cast out by the virtue of humility, patience and charity. "We must love our nothingness in His Infinite All, and think only of this All which is infinitely lovable... Our mission is to forget ourselves, to annihilate ourselves. We are so insignificant and yet, Jesus wants the salvation of souls to depend on our sacrifices, on our love" St. Therese of Lisieux. I love to recall also what St. Francis De Sales declared:"If you want to know whether a man is really wise, learned, generous or noble, see if his life is moulded by humility, modesty and submission. If so, his gifts are genuine."
May we remember that "the lower we are, the more we attract God"... DKK
You must feel AWFUL!
You must feel AWFUL!
With no humility, there is utter perishability...
Your haphazardly cursory statement cannot be further from the truth (it has absolutely no gravitational affinity to truth). Human beings as imperfect creatures cannot absorb the closer presence of the Creator without humility - humility being the solid foundation for the theological virtues of faith, hope and charity, from which consequentially arise genuine wisdom, and exceedingly elevated joy, fortitude, peace as well as all habitual and firm dispositions to do good. All moral virtues (starting with humility) are gradually acquired through human effort aided by the all-healing, all-knowing and omnipotent God's Grace. The theological virtues as faith, hope and charity are indissoluble from humility - cannot be ever acquired without humility. They are gifts infused by God into humble and contrite souls to make them capable of acting as His children and of meriting eternal life. The journey of a finite human being toward the Infinite God has its deep mystical experiences that can be comprehended or appreciated more fully only while living a deeply moral life that affect all areas of one's life. There is always something mysterious and elusive in the way the creature and the Creator unite more intimately to each other; in the insuperable friction between a person's finiteness and his/her yearning for the Absolute or Infinite God, a person bears within him/herself the most significant question of the ultimate meaning of life.
I hope that this simplified elucidation answered your groundless concern.
Wishing you true Peace and Joy! (and remember it always starts with humility!) DKK

That's what superior poetry is made of!
Dear Dr. Kardas,
The Christian meaning of life is brilliantly & artfully presented in this verse. I read it once more & found additional & deeper meaning. The Ring of fire.. of God crushes our vain desires, and noticed you capitalized Ring, which means the marriage with Christ... the closer bonding with Christ. Deep mystical insight is what your work is all about. Love how you linked the search of a Christian for closeness with Christ with the cross. Finding a true and meaningful life can't be isolated from the cross and sufferings. We often come to re-read your poetry and always discover deeper meaning. Your extensive theological/philosophical erudition & superb varying styles of expression make your poetry timeless! Thank you for caring for souls of others & being such a deep thinker! God bless you always.
"Interior and exterior shedding of ourselves"...
Your cordial and thoughtful remarks are touching and truly appreciated; you selected from this piece the fundamental contents always involved in a a fruitful and victorious spiritual journey: the Cross and the Ring - the sanctifying, and unifying signifiers. The Cross representing both the redemptive sacrifice of Christ and the purifying and sanctifying power of sufferings, while the Ring symbolizing the final stage of spiritual love or spiritual marriage with Christ, of which saints/mystics as St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross wrote in detail. The ideal is to be untouched by anything, yet touched by God in everything. The spiritual quest in order to be supernatural begins with ascetic liberations that lead to something far more superior, to a sacrifice; to a complete offering of ourselves and all that we have renounced to God - in the union with the sacrifice of Christ.
With prayers that the divine love will continue to renew and transform us... DKK

Godless misery
Dear Dr. Kardas,
High quality formulations & integration of ideas to ponder upon. I have been reading some of your older & the newest entries, and I must repeat as the other readers do that all your creations because of wisdom & expression are of the highest quality and excellence. When we neglect or lose the desire to seek God with all our hearts, the world becomes an extremely dangerous place filled with all sorts of abuses and lack of reverence or due respect for anything. Thank you for all the reminders that really matter in this life & the hereafter. Please, keep up the great work! Love Lil
Love can never declare -"good enough or satisfactory"
Thank you for your considerate thoughts and insightful observations. Indubitably, what is incompatible with the teachings of Christ brings on all forms of idolatry (e.g. consumerism, violence), fleeting whims and ultimately a disastrous spiritual emptiness. Without compassion and love, the "work" of the Evil One shows itself as arrogant, cruel, pompous and destructive "force", and without the power and love of God, no vital objective or goal is ever achievable. The modern world seems to be insistent in obliterating the concept of sin and its grave - present and eternal - consequences. Words indeed can be highly powerful in instructing the intellect, yet clearly not so much "good" or even "sublime" poetry and writing is needed but rather good examples - heroism of virtue. As St. Therese of Lisieux - another Doctor of the Church proclaimed: "Believe me, the writing of pious books, the composing of the sublimest poetry; all that does not equal the smallest act of self-denial."
May we be disciplined and educated in the "academia" of the Crucifix... DKK
Of Sound Soul, Of Sound Heart
Dorothy,
I agree, poetry and writing fall short of what one needs to do to grow in Christ. Words come easy, actions...that will always be the hard part.
I appreciate the lessons in humility and true self-denial.
Love,
Kathy
In Union with God - Victim...
Dear sister Kathy,
"I never give up trying to make you like Me insofar as you are able to respond" - Jesus
I would like to share my very first "poem" that His Majesty forced me gently and inspired me to put together in 2001.
The Silence that Silenced the Foe...
To ask and not to receive...
To ask and to contend with the contrary...
To ask and to bear the weight of obscurity...
To ask and to strive against the mysterious...
To ask and to meet with silence...
To ask and not to receive
Is to Receive.
To ask and never receive
Is to be favored with the greatest favor of all...
It is to be whole...
For to ask and never receive
Is to be a pure victim of love...
Your generous heart extends to all... XOX
Take courage my friend!

The Silence that Silenced the Foe ~ Dorothy Kardas 2001
Dorothy,
Thank you for giving me the gift of reading your art, "The Silence that Silenced the Foe".
I have the grace to understand the message, now pray that I have the grace to be the messenger.
It takes a lot more than wisdom to keep from drowning in our humanity. It takes a lot more than self discipline to keep the reigns away from Satan's insanity.
There is only one heart that truly matters, and that is Christs. To know the heart of Christ, we must see the good in each other.
I appreciate your loving ways, they are His.
Kathy :o)
He Calls Us By Name
Dear Sister Dorothy,
Your art is "absolutely" stunning.
There is no need for us to drown in our muck and mire when we can have God's fire.
In spite of our world's indifference to serve God's Creation, we must move forward, even in utter humiliation.
It is not the "we" that gets in our way, it is the "I" that turns away.
When we reach inside ourselves, deep down where God abides, we find the light that moves where Perfect Love abides.
It is not our perfection that stills our sorrow, rather it is our willingness to serve His tomorrow.
To blindly sift His light for grace, is like manufacturing a heartless race.
Grace abides in faith's desires, to do the will our Father inspires.
May His inspiration be the writing on the wall, the call of each one of us. He calls us by name.
I am not sure why rhyme is my signature. Perhaps it is the way words fall from Heaven.
For all you do to teach, inspire, and change, I love you.
It is "absolutely" beautiful to answer His call. May our inner turmoils and struggles be our lessons in finding Christ.
Please continue to pray for me as I seek employment, and the great change that the death of my best friend, Mom, brings.
Your thoughtfulness will become my courage.
God be with us,
Kathy
"Suffering for God is
better than working miracles" - St. Bernard
Dear Kathy,
Thank you for your kindly, lavishly and artistically delivered responses and thoughts. Radiancy or Light of God/Christ, Grace, Love, Truth, the Word of God, the Decalogue... all of which is everlastingly and changelessly radiating expects a free response of constantly loving gratitude. All champions of God's Truth (the only Truth) must be individuals of rock-firm fortitude, knowing that by extremity of their trials, they will learn the greater extremity of God's Love (Doctor of the Church - St. Teresa of Avila). The health of one's soul is inseparable from knowing the Truth, yet only by virtuous life one not only can please (and console...) God but also can understand the truth about God. Knowing the truth begins in self-knowldge - and without full recognition of our own abysmal nothingness, we cannot expect a "full flowering" of rightly ordered love. To quote St. Bernard again, "Destroy self-love and there will be no more Hell."
To be educated by the Holy Spirit is to bear plenteous fruit, be "restored to Paradise" and led back to the Kingdom of Heaven - being children of Light.
Be assured of my prayers in all your intentions.
May we have pure souls... burning hearts - always on fire for God...
Love - Dorothy
Shooting for the Stars!
Doc, after reading this riveting poem I hope I am galloping along with that horse... not to mention spitting in the ugly beast's face! We not only enjoyed this illuminating poem but all readers' and your wise exchanges. So glad you keep stressing about the dangers of sins. Most folks these days think that even if they continue to live in serious sins will still get to Heaven as soon as they take their last breath. Keep sharp shooting Doc!

To be "God-intoxicated"
Dear Richie and Friends,
Admittedly, I love reading your messages written in a unique/humorous tone. Yes, Hell is a place and state of eternal punishment for the fallen angels and human beings - the state of complete self-exclusion from communion with God, and is reserved for those who refuse to repent from grave sins or refuse to believe.
The existence of hell is consistent with God's justice, since God respects human free will and those who are lost actually condemn themselves by their resistance to, or rejection of, the Grace of God.
This is how "I" summarized sin and its effects:
Slave-Raider
Sin - the real enemy of the mortal...
The perpetual blinder...
The darkener of the sense of the real
The definite weakener of the will
Depriving of light for is depriving of sight
The eternal antagonist to salvific plan
Not merely the breaker of divine decree
But the infractor of the law of Truth
The objector to the order of Love
To the union with the neighbor and the Maker
The disrupter of the right referential state mid
The offender, in the offender, the neighbor and the Creator
The revolter against divine predestination
The rejecter of the validity of God's Truth,
And whence, the disclaimer and disowner of any truth
The rejecter of divine Grace, Justice and Life
The foe to being truly loved and love truly
The pernicious opponent to the patterns of holiness
The pestilent decliner of the mind and heart
The last detractor, accuser, and depriver...
May His Grace be upon you...
In union with Christ...DKK

Compassion restores hope...
Dear Marin,
Regarding my heart condition - when I comply with the necessary restrictions and avoid excessive work, but most importantly, thanks to divine providential care, I do not experience any discomfort and my heart functions normally. In recent months, in spite of a rather busy schedule, I did not suffer any setbacks.
I truly appreciate your concern and compassion, as well as the piece of advice about Dr. Bruce Lipton.
To abide in faith is to be messengers of joy and hope...
With all blessings...

Hi Dorothy Kardas, I got no
Hi Dorothy Kardas,
I got no time to read your arts until now, this afternoon return home and search from my buddies list, enter your blog and try to read. Wow, i found there're a lot of diamonds in your place. Every piece of poems is a piece of gold and real diamond, which may teach me to learn very much indeed. I feel myself is a pupil before a teacher. There are many useful, valuable vocabularies which I need to learn. In this piece divided into two long stanzas. Nearly every line of each stanza leads me to think and learn deeply into my heart. I write down the whole page into my file, kept to be revised day by day, until i understand it completely.
There many creative phrases very valuable to me in the 2nd stanza, they are the true diamonds to be picked into my mind. Your blog will teach how to think and write good poetry in the future surely. Certainly, i will come more and more again!
I like your style of writing!

Milk of human kindness...
Dear Albert Wong,
Your polite comments written in such a kind-hearted manner, refreshing modesty and courtesy are indeed heartwarming. I am glad that you found what I try to express through the written word as motivating or guiding in your own poetic work. Writing, by sharing our beliefs, convictions, thoughts, observations, events etc. can be moving, instructive, edifying and uplifting; can be utterly irreplaceable...
It saves experiences, sentiments and essential insights from forgetting - from treating them with neglect or thoughtless inattention.
Be assured that I will read some of your entries as soon as I can. Your poem on which I commented about "bees" brought back nostalgic and beautiful childhood memories and elevated my joy - affected my soul. That is what good poems are "all" about.
May the Only True Inspirer set our hearts on ever blazing fire...
Wishing you all the best... DKK
Penetrating thoughts & sublime crafting!
Dr.Kardas, you stirred my innermost depths with this marvellously created poem & the spiritual questioning. Haven't written to you for a while but I read your poems faithfully. Some lines know by heart now. As you often repeat we can't do enough and show enough gratitude for one of God's graces, never mind for constantly given graces. The fact that I breathe & write to you today is God's mercy. I remember many thoughts from your poetry and books but one came to mind when reading this poem was what you stated that Jesus said to one saint that He grants a special grace so we will be able to receive even that grace and other graces. Your God-given wisdom, talents and great erudition always shines through in books, poetry and all works. Always grateful reader!!! PRAISE BE GOD... OUR CREATOR & SAVIOUR!!!!!
Oops! Sorry this comment was meant for your poem about "Fateful..." (senior moment!)
