An Infallible Guide And Mender
Without Thee, nothing I am but nothing
No need to shoot for merit spotting
Still, awestruck for the Ring mesmeric
Far from the wildly fanciful or chimeric
For with Thee, there is unity... felicity...
Bring my core near to Thee... near to Thee...
Oh! the raging torrents bitterly mad
Force to safeguard from utter death...
Without Thee, I am dwindling, I am nothing
Wasting time - praising me (cloud of glory plotting)
Yet, enthralled for the unbroken garland
Cherishing vividly the booming Fatherland.
With Thee, there is felicitous... prosperous me
Abide in me, enriching me... Infinite Thee...
Oh! the stormy waves in heavy head
Headgear from saturnine death...
Without Thee, I "hang" and "swing" for nothing
There's drying out, blotting, disordered plotting
Still, mesmerized by the blazing halo...
Seen vibrantly in the soul thirsty and mellow...
With Thee, I see... I flee from frivolity... from iniquity!
With Thee be free... relish glee... abiding charity...
All those dreadful sunless days
Lanterns to place ruinous sways...
Without Thee, I wing, my lips sting, I am nothing
Futile steps at binding, bandaging, knotting...
Unremittingly rapt what Thine divine Mind mapped
Vehemently engrossed what Thine divine Hand capped
With Thee I see... I be what Thee meant for me...
With Thee be free... endless jubilee... bliss in eternity...
Thy armed... vast love and unfailing might
Awakened conscience, inflamed the heart...
Freeing from mists and haze my sight
Guiding to path of enrapture and light...
Never again to be apart, compass my part
Consecrating my aching... ailing heart...
A sword in my hands...
Declared open to Thine infallible demands...

LIGHT YEARS BEYOND THE PHENOMENAL WORLD!
IMBUED WITH INGENIUS ILLUSTRATION AND ENCHANCED PURPOSED.
THANKS FOR THE INVITATION DR. K.
?
AXIOM Does the good Doctor pay you to write these comments ??? and what's with the shouting, turn off the cap's.
Reply to unseasoned remarks
I do appreciate my readers' comments. However, I do not view your remarks as sagacious or effectual. It seems like you are trying to unsuccessfully disburden your mind of something... I am sure, you can find more effective remedy... Take care... Dr. Kardas
P.S. AXIOM, Thank you for your thoughtful comments.
Then here is a pinch of salt,
Hello Dorothy,
I have been here on the Showcase for quite sometime now, read many types of poems, some more like short stories or even narratives and I have read all of yours. Most of the authors here on the Showcase are gracious and humble in accepting comments and in also reading of other poet’s works and commenting on them. You see that is how it works, as in life, there is the exchange of feelings, emotions and thought. When it is a one-way street the person makes him or herself out to be a “taker” a sort of self-absorbed, self-centered type of person. Also much can be learned by what kind of comments are made by other poets about ones work. This is not true especially when it’s by the same “following” or in the real world they are called groupies.
Dorothy you may be right in your perception as to my need to unburden myself of these observations. I have noticed your writes and how in a very short time, say under an hour, one maybe two of your “kind following” can hit your poems 70 to 80 times. I have witnessed this type of self-indulgent behavior before from regular individuals. But you are a Doctor as you so feel the need to tell everyone “dorothy Kardas Psy.D. Th.D.” as if it makes a difference. Plus you also like to recruit for your other religious and political causes. That in itself makes me wary of you.
The long and the short of it is this, try to open your mind and soul too more than that in which you solely only write. At least try and relate to others around you here at the Showcase. If you wish to stay in a vacuum and write of only your religious zealot pious thoughts I guess then fine and may God bless you for it. But know this, I am not the only one here on the Showcase that has noticed this. Do with this information as you wish, I will not spend any further time in this endeavor.
Regards
Ron
COMMENT TAKEN WITH GREAT UMBRIDGE!
WE AS MEMBERS OF A CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY, TAKE YOUR NOTE HERE ABOVE AS A PERSONAL ATTACK OF OUR INTEGRITY, NOT TO MENTION YOUR VERY SERIOUS ACCUSATIONS OF A VERY HUMBLE AND CARING INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO OUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH IN MORE WAYS THAN WE CAN ELABORATE UPON HERE. AS CHRISTIANS, WE ARE USED TO STILL BEING PERSECUTED IN THE SECULAR WORLD, AS DR. KARDAS' POETRY AND WRITINGS OFTEN EMPHASIZE... NONE-THE-LESS...WE SHALL PRAY FOR YOUR ENLIGHTENMENT. PLEASE REMEMBER, THAT TO 'JUDGE' ANYONE IS A VERY SERIOUS MORAL CRIME (SIN).
*** AND AS FOR THE ACCUSATION OF SHOUTING...NOT VALID EITHER. I HAVE RETINAL DEGENERATION AND NEED TO SEE CLEARLY WHAT HAS BEEN PRINTED. MY APOLOGIES IF THIS PRINT OFFENDS YOU OR ANYONE ELSE.
AXIOM1
First, I apologize for the capital letters comment and your impairment. It must be something as of lately because I have seen and read all your comments to Dorothy and many were not in capital. (see below)
IMAGE FRIGHTENING INDEED!
On May 27th, 2009 AXIOM1 says:
Those in life who are "fazed by nothing" , shall indeed cringe and cower when in God's Almighty Presence...oh, "the incurable prodigal child"...
The Poets' Circle enjoyed many challenges today. Thanks Dr. K.
I am sure you do realize that it is considered shouting, but I digress.
Please re-read to whom I addressed my comments. They were not to the members of the Christian University but to Dorothy. Your referral to my comments as serious accusations and a moral sin with intent to persecute is ludicrous. This is a public forum and freedom of speech allows comments both pro and con spare vulgarity or racism which I myself do not tolerate.
Furthermore Dorothy can defend herself if she so chooses so get down off the soapbox and tend to your own affairs. I would also like to mention I am not in need of your prayers. Enlightenment is a secular word used with the Illuminati. Are you a member of the Illuminati? My father is a minister and my mother a missionary so I have a very close and long lasting relationship with my God so thank you very much.
Lastly you do not know the difference from constructive criticism and judgment. I strongly suggest you educate yourself on these issues.
Have a blessed day
I Do Not Defend Myself...
Dear Ron,
As a Christian when I see some injustice being done to others, I try to offer my service to the victims or correct the ones who are clearly involved in activities that in the light of divinely revealed Truths, are not for their highest spiritual and eternal benefits. That is why I attempt to help the voiceless and defenseles as the unborn - God's children are. Yet, I do not defend myself... you may draw your own conclusions.
Ron, some of the questions that you raised in your several remarks might be answered by reading my Personal Information section - please check the note at the end about my heart condition. By the way, in this poem "An Infallible Guide and Mender" dedicated to my sister Carolyn, who takes care of me when I am not well, there is a statement about my "ailing... aching heart."
May the Infinite and Merciful One always watch over you and bless you...
Faithfully in Christ, Dorothy
Dr. George Tiller could not defend himself
"Do not take revenge, dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath. For it is written, "Vengeance belongs to me. I will pay them back, declares the Lord." Romans 12:19
How does the collect group of Pro-life activates justify the murder of Dr. George Tiller? Bombing his clinics was first, shooting him in both his arm was next, and now this, execution in the house of God. Anti-abortion groups denounced the shooting and stressed that they support only nonviolent protest. But we all know that is not the honest case. One might say that all the actions of anti-protest/Pro-life members cannot be monitored, true. But it is a case in point that there should be a separation and limit as to how far church and state can interfere in another’s persons freedom of choice. This is the ultimate in interference.
Imposition of beliefs on another person is equal to the denial of every basic human freedom and expression. To say that it is the “unborn’s” rights that are in question is an act of assumption that anyone other than the mother can provide life to that child and therefore has the God given right to make decisions for that child. From the day a child is born it is the responsibility of the parents. Where is it written otherwise? When did Jesus say differently? How does responsibility change before or after birth?
The most disturbing of all interference of anti-abortion Pro-Life groups are their lack of following thru. They are at the clinics. They are at the hospitals. They are in front of the town halls and in the courtrooms. But where are they to be found when raped women are forced to deliver an unwanted child and wind up in therapy? Where are they to offer financial assistance to help raise the child? Do they setup orphanages or make adoption arrangements? No they impose their beliefs and walk away.
“Vengeance is mine,” saith the lord. Why does anti-abortion Pro-Life groups take it into their hands to judge those around them? Who gave them the right to exercise morality upon another human born or un-born? Luke 2:51 is a direct statement of the condition existing in the family of Jesus Christ. The passage reads, "And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and he was subject to them". The "he" in the passage was Jesus and the "them" was Mary and Joseph. The broad principle illustrated in this passage teaches that parents are given by God the authority to direct, guide, teach and discipline their children. Parents must realize that children, who, in later life, dishonor their parents, bear heavy consequences as the result of divine discipline. Deut. 21:20 27:16; Prov. 15:20; 30:11; Micah 7:6; 2 Tim. 3:2; Matt. 15:4; Isa. 45:10. But so to are parents solely responsible in their later life for their children.
It is not morally, religiously or ethically correct to inflect and impose ones beliefs on another human being.
May the Heavenly Holy Father, show forgiveness and mercy for all those responsible for previous and recent actions such as what has happened today. May God also show forgiveness and mercy to all who support and encourage such actions.
Born of Sin, Baptized in the Spirit, Ronald
Every life must be protected regardless of age, views or actions
Violence should never be seen as a solution to any existing societal or political evils, so I am saddened to hear of the killing of the abortionist George Tiller. However, we should not rush to judgment or draw premature conclusions (it could have been a misguided activist, an angry post-abortive man or woman, an enemy within the abortion industry, or a political enemy frustrated with the way Tiller has escaped prosecution).
Ron, you will be surprised but I happen to agree that we should not impose our values on others for we all were given the inestimably meaningful gift of free will. However, when it comes to destroying God's precious handiwork, there is where the second most important commandment comes into play: Love your neighbor as yourself, which among many others things means to lead the neighbor to God; to correct the evil doer in the light of divine truths, so that he/she may not ultimately perish; to show the beauty, richness and edifying, beneficial and healing aspects of the revealed sacred doctrines that were provided for humankind as a safeguard from final damnation. All of these caring or charitable attempts are to secure for the neighbor the highest possible spiritual benefits to enjoy in eternity. Assuredly, you would agree with me that if you love or care about your brother and he is staying in the state of unrepentant and grave sin, you would be highly concerned about his final destiny, and do everything in your power to prevent him from endless eternal torment. Naturally, he has a choice to repent or reject your loving concerns. What in this case some may call imposition of values, (if your main motives are the love of your brother and love of God) this in fact is the noble fulfillment of the second greatest commandment from which we all shall be judged. Wouldn't we do anything besides praying, like fasting, or performing self-sacrificing actions to bring the ones we care close to God, and protect them from hell? Another example, I am also sure that we both would run without a hesitation to help a child who is being abused or in danger of being killed, perhaps even sacrificing our own lives to save that child. And, that is what Christ expects of His followers. Analogously, I view the evil of abortion and the exigency to eliminate that evil as my sacred obligation of loving the unborn neighbor, for which Christ also died as the fulfillment of the second commandment. And correcting the ones who are about to commit this crime as my love toward them in protecting them from staining their souls from this unthinkable crime. Of course, they may reject my concerns and attempt, but my efforts or lack of involvement will be judged by God. God who is Love and Truth will judge our love or lack of it. Pretending not to see the unborn neighbor is a crime against the second commandment... the one against whom we may have closed our hearts saying that he or she never existed... "As you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me" (Mt 25:40). Why is infanticide almost unanimously rejected today, whereas many have become virtually inured to abortion? Perhaps, the only reason is that in the case of abortion, one does not see the face of the one condemned never to see the light of day. Ron, I know you would agree that when a person's conscience loses respect for life as something sacred (and we do nothing about it in fear of being accused of imposing our values), that person inevitably ends by losing his or her own identity. Assuredly, you would also agree that parents who are spiritually and intellectually immature, are selfish or egotistically calculating, lacking proper compassion or are mentally disturbed not always are able to know the difference between right and wrong (especially if steeped in grave sin which blinds their judgment and discernment), and thus allowing them to kill defenseless children or be involved in any other evil doing, would create unthinkable chaos and inner and outer anarchy in our society. That is the "insanity of subjectivity!" There is a significant difference between proper moral discernment done again, in the light of God's Truth and judgment. Only the Divine Legislator can see our innermost motives and intentions. They cannot be judged from outside by anyone. But He does demand to love our neighbor both born and unborn. Through His death, Christ unveils the meaning and pricelessness of each human life. The importance and value of each created human life is so grand that the Son of God has taken it up and made it the instrument of the Salvation of all humanity. Needless to say, the Holy Scriptures have numerous references about rebuking the evil doer, which is an essential part, and a sign of, Christian love.
And, "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for God made man in his own image" (Gen 9:5-6); "Thou didst knit me together in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139); "Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you" (Isa. 49:15) and many more.
Ron, I totally agree with you that after all that is voiced, condemnation and disdain alone are no methods to effectively instigate change. That which is deficient of logic cannot become in accordance with logic in an atmosphere of untruth or suppression of truth, and reasoning in a clear and consistent manner is also impossible when there is deficiency of loving concern. If we want for people not to murder, we cannot resort to explaining that revolt is affirmation of moral values or ideals, and a way to resolve a conflict. Instead, attention must be given to relieving the tensions, uncovering the illusions and injustices in our societies, taking on responsibility for the financial and other best interests of the child and the parents, and amending the social order which led one to ever consider such an unthinkable option. The denunciatory stance over abortion needs to be nonetheless subdued with forgiveness and love. Only then, and by our earnest participatory action in correcting the determinative factors or the chain of causes resulting in the decision to abort can we ever by degrees prevent abortion. Ron, I have more to say but I hope that looking at this crime from the perpective of the First and Second greatest commandments (since they are inseparably related) will clarify my stance.
I am in a hurry so please forgive me any errors etc.
Faithfully in Christ, Dorothy
I thank you for your response
an since you are in a hurry you can if you wish reply to my next posting at your leisure. I present a hypothetical situation but one that is not outside the realm of possibility. Before I do proceed, I also agree with most of your reply but still have differences with "Love thy neighbor as one self" in how you presented it. Nonetheless please consider this ....
Leviticus 17:10-14 has a very clear message concerning the abstinence from ingesting blood. It clearly says, “You must not eat blood”. It is considered a command as serious and important, as “You must not kill”. Let us suppose I am a man of great influence socially and financially. In fact I have tremendous power due to the fact I am a founder of a new movement that believes in this command ”You must not eat blood”and a following of high ranking positions of office. As a God fearing Christian I take it upon myself to spread this message for I to believe that I should "Love thy neighbor as myself" and are concerned for everyones soul. To eat blood is to ingest it in any way shape or form be it, thru the mouth or thru transfusion. So having the ability and social backing of my movement I thru non-violent action seek to close all blood banks across America in fact I also try to prevent transfusions in all hospitals.
This movement not only thinks that no one should eat blood but it also is against cannibalism. Cannibalism is another form of ingesting blood and is extended to refer to any species consuming members of its own kind. Organ transplants is a form of cannibalism. Using my power and with the movement’s backing I petition Congress and try to persuaded them to remove “organ donor approval” from the back of driver’s licenses. All Doctors performing organ transplants are picketed, offices are surrounded and the doctors themselves are dragged into to court to justify their actions. In fact my movement is so persuasive that the Supreme Court is presented with this case to decide if cannibalism and organ transplants are one in the same and should be illegal.
This is where it gets personal. Receiving a blood transfusion and an organ transplant can easily become the right in question due to the imposition of another man and or movement. Having set the scene lets bring it home, Dorothy you find yourself in the hospital in need of both a blood transfusion and a heart transplant. There I stand at the foot of your bed holding in my hand a court order preventing you from getting them. Why, because I have found a way to impose my beliefs and interpretation about the word of God upon you. So ask yourself Dorothy if this scenario is indeed possible, yes it is because with the right amount of money anything is possible. Just a few short years ago we never thought Tom and Harry could marry and a black man would be in the white house. Let me continue, how would feel having me tell you that you are no long allowed or responsible for your life. How would you feel me imposing my beliefs on you? How would you feel knowing I had the ability to prevent you from getting a blood transfusion and a heart transplant. It’s your life; you should be able to make these choices right wrong or indifferent. Who am I to quote the Holy Scriptures to you “ You Must Not Eat Blood”!!! Yet this is a very real possibility where you would be left dying in a bed because I thought you were about to commit a sin.
I hope to God that you are not in this situation due to your heart and please forgive me I wish you no ill will. But Dorothy my point here is this, It is not that you believe if abortion is right or wrong, it is not that the eating of blood and cannibalism is right or wrong. We both live in a world where we have religious freedom and can practice our faith freely. Spread your religion, viewpoint, and faith amongst your fellow worshipers, do so openly. The point I am trying to make is that the imposition of these beliefs on another human being, no matter how strongly you feel about them, is ethically, morally and religiously wrong !!! I hope and pray I never nor any other man or woman has this much power that they can go around saving souls in such a way.
Sincerely
Ron
"And, I will make you fishers of man" - JESUS
Ron, The hypothetical question that you presented "You must not eat blood" and "You must not kill" are significantly and (in my understanding indisputably) different for many reasons. In the future, via e-mail (if that's OK with you, and when I have more time) I shall gladly present my argumentation based on theological, philosophical and logical grounds and insights.
Also, I can expand more on the second commandment if you ask more specific questions.
However, I would like to make a few additional points that I think are necessary to carefully examine. Please, forgive me that I shall approach this in a "gigantic simplification."
What do you think Our Redeemer meant when He said: "I will make you fishers of man?"
This is an unambiguous and sacred call of Christ to continue His mission, which is winning souls for Christ; it means to spread His sacred truths and doctrines to all, so that all can enjoy His inexhaustible riches now and in
eternity. Here, I have to strongly emphasize that I do not have my personal values; my values are God's Changeless Truths; my values are exclusively rooted in the teachings of Christ. And, Christ repeatedly told His followers to spread His Truth, and also warned them that there will be those individuals who will persecute His followers as they persecuted Him. If I chose to be silent and absolutely uninvolved in confronting intrinsically evil issues, and let others continue to live unrepentantly, nobody would be annoyed by me, nobody would attack me or even persecute me since, I would not be making any "intelligent noises." I would not be imposing my religious beliefs... here I must again clarify: I affirm God's Truth, which is my sacred duty as a follower of Christ. Otherwise, I cannot call myself a Christian! Christ unequivocally and repeatedly called us to spread and affirm His healing, liberating, uplifting and consoling doctrine. As the Omniscient God, He knew that there will be persecutions of His followers when they stand for, or defend His Truth (and countless martyrs shed blood and died to defend the sacredness of divine truths). In other scriptural passage, Our Lord also mentioned that "son will turn against father, brother against sister etc". This is again, an unequivocal confirmation that we must openly and uncompromisingly defend His Truth and His Sacred Laws to the extent that it will create even division in our own families in efforts to edify those who may be less mature or are spiritually unemployed. Christ is against pseudo-harmony or fake peace, He is Truth Itself and all must be fulfilled in accordance with Truth and Love, which are inseparably linked. Truth and Love are so intimately connected that "to tell the truth without love, becomes a lie..." and here we speak again of the second commandment. Undoubtedly, our existence here on earth is a training for Eternity.
There is no such concept as "private salvation". One's salvation in order to be genuine (also one's conversion, which is an ongoing process) is impartibly connected with helping others to be participants in God's infinite goodness, wisdom and love.
Another, brief yet an extremely important point, I need to make is about the consequences of sin, especially grave sins. The fundamental and constitutive dynamism of sin is the unwillingness to remain in a loving relationship with God, which consequentially leads to the degeneration of the human heart and the human mind. Through sin, human beings not only reject the validity of God"s truth, but by refusing to accept God's truth, they disclaim and disown their own "truth" as well. All wrongdoings and transgressions represent the denial of divine grace, love, truth, justice and righteousness, as a consequence of which the unrepentant sinner lives outside of divine life in a clear opposition to the standard of holiness. As Hans Urs von Balthasar put it: "How do we know that God hates sin? By the fact that Christ loves sinners. These are the poorest of all, the ones most needing protection." And, for this He also needs willing souls here and now to continue His work. Sins, especially in serious matters not only blind us but also breed a lot of sufferings. True greatness of Christianity lies also in the fact that it does not seek a supernatural cure for suffering but a supernatural use of it, like offering our pain to Christ for conversion and salvation of others.
Our Lord also advised His followers, which again speaks of our task to affirm and spread His Truths and Laws, that in the cities where their preaching was unwelcome, they were "to shake the dust" of their shoes, and go elsewhere to preach to those who have receptive minds and hearts. Indeed, humility is connected with reception, while pride with deception.
Ron, so what I am trying to do is to simply fulfill my Christian duty out of love and gratitude to my Redeemer, as well as my concerns for others, including those who cannot defend themselves. Assuredly, there will be those who will not accept Christ's teachings, and I will follow His advice: shake the dust... and move on. However, I will continue to pray for them and offer my little pains and sacrifices for their conversion. If, I did not do that, I would be betraying Our Lord... and would have even greater difficulty to face Him on the Other Side...
Most importantly, we all must be extremely careful when assessing the behavior of others. Often, what we may think is their own zealous impulse, is in fact the powerful inspiration or prompting of the Holy Spirit. One of the inestimably significant promptings of the Holy Spirit is to "defend our own sacredness and the sacredness of others."
"The Infallible Guide and Mender" is unceasingly acting, and is calling us to self-sacrificing and eager involvement as well...
Humanity's abominable crimes and sinfulness cannot diminish Divine Mercy. True triumph or progress of humankind is procured therefore by acceptance of God's unceasing and unsurpassable mercy; it is the summation of individual spiritual conversions and self-sacrificing actions rooted in the unerring guidance of divine grace.
Again, sorry for any errors, since I am writing this quickly in between my professional duties (I am far behind my schedule!).
Ron, I think it would be better if we continued this discussion via e-mail. I shall be unavailable for a while but I will respond when I can.
(Keep crafting your poems!)
Faithfully in Christ, Dorothy
Further concerns of Religious Imposition
Dorothy,
In the aim to focus on what is genuinely debatable and controversial, it helps to distinguish between two kinds of reliance’s on religious grounds. An assumption from which I start is that legislators and also citizens fail to fulfill appropriate roles in liberal democracies if their grounds for political behavior are to promote constitutional violations or to undermine basic features of liberal democracy. These conclusions carry us some distance in respect to possible self-restraint about religious grounds; but great care is needed.
Basic premises of liberal democracy definitely preclude practices of “religious imposition” and reliance on what I call imposition reasons, but some reliance’s on religious grounds neither generate impositions nor amount to imposition reasons. Whether self-restraint is appropriate for these latter religious grounds is the critical controversial subject. A substantial degree of religious liberty is a basic requisite of liberal democracy. Many think the government should not encourage any particular faith or religion in general; others disagree. Dorothy I am sure you concur that the government should not actively suppress religions or sharply discourage the exercise of particular faiths. To take a concrete example: although most people in the United States are Christians, forbidding or actively discouraging the practice of the Jewish religion would be antithetical to existing premises of our political order. Legislation that imposed a special fee for the practice of Judaism would offend a widespread sense of what is just and it would violate constitutional rights, not only as those rights are presently construed, but also as people would construe them who would allow many more connections between government and religion than has the modern Supreme Court. A fee to practice a particular religion would be a “religious imposition” at odds with premises of liberal democracy. Such a fee would by its objective operation constitute an imposition, independent of the motives of those who adopted and administered it.
Dorothy, one of many imposition reasons can be illustrated with respect to classroom prayer in public schools. People disagree whether such prayer itself constitutes an imposition on those whose beliefs do not correspond with the prayers. Many people are critical of the Supreme Court decision barring such prayer and do not think modest state support of religious practice violates basic premises of liberal democracy. Supporters of school prayer tend to say that so long as students need not participate and can be excused from the classroom, the pressure on nonbelievers is not very great and is acceptable. Suppose that Herman is a local school board official who is supporting a constitutional amendment to permit organized classroom prayer. It happens that Herman is extremely hostile to the Jewish religion and wants the school environment to embarrass Jewish children into abandoning their faith. Herman assumes that in his dominantly Christian community most school prayers will be explicitly Christian, and he believes that school prayer will actually put tremendous pressure on nonbelieving children. That, indeed, is his main but unexpressed reason for supporting school prayer. His reason is an imposition reason. Whether or not school prayer objectively amounts to an imposition, Herman's reason for supporting it is an aim to impose that itself conflicts with basic premises of liberal democracy.
"Religious liberty does not mean the freedom of a religious sect or a combination of groups to organize for a political takeover and impose religious beliefs or requirements upon minorities."
by Paul D. Simmon in his 2000 book Freedom of Conscience
There are quite a few people in the United States who seem to think that when they are not able to impose their beliefs on others, their religious freedom is being imposed upon. They need to be helped to understand that religious freedom applies to all, even religious minorities, and that the imposition of beliefs or requirements upon others is a violation of *their freedom.
Here's a sentence from Princeton philosophy professor's Kwame Anthony Appiah's new article in Slate: "We can encourage religious engagement in the public square but insist on freedom from religious imposition and the widest workable range of religious expression."
Tom Brokaw, the moderator of "Meet the Press," Speaker Pelosi was asked, "When does life begin?" She responded: "We don't know. The point is that it shouldn't have an impact on the woman's right to choose…. I don't think anyone can tell you when life begins, when human life begins."
In speaking to Brokaw on "Meet the Press" several weeks after the interview with Pelosi,Senator Joseph Biden was asked the same question, "When does life begin?" He responded, "Look, I know when it begins for me.… I'm prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception. But that is my judgment. For me to impose that judgment on everyone else who is equally and maybe even more devout than I am seems to me is inappropriate in a pluralistic society."Senator Biden suggests that the answer to the question of when life begins is knowable, but albeit only as a matter of faith, not as a matter of scientific fact. Therefore he argues, since the USA does not allow matters of religion and faith to be legislated, it would be unconstitutional to force a "belief" on others.
Sorry for the lengthy delivery and I apologize for posting this after your invitation of email ...
Ron
A short reply...
Ron,
Science has provided indisputable evidence which is affirmative of what the Fathers of Church had declared that destroying unborn life means destroying human beings. Dr. Jerome Lejeune (among many others) asserted that an unborn child is "the he/she who belongs to our species... no matter the amount of kilograms and no matter the amount of differentiation of tissue." That is, it cannot be concluded that the first cell is non-differentiated cell since the first cell is "KNOWING HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE THE CELL PROGENY." There are numerous books available confirming this scientific fact. I wrote extensively about abortion (in one of my books) from the scientific, theological, philosophical, and psychological perspective in 2002. Yes! scientific research confirms this indisputable fact that life begins from the very moment of conception.
Re: further concerns of Religious Imposition - I have read many books that argue convincingly against your concerns, (if you are interested I shall provide the authors and the titles of the books via e-mail). In two of my books I also addressed these issues.
Ron, these exchanges are getting too long, and are unrelated to this poem.
In the future, e-mail should be the avenue.
Peace and joy!
In solidarity with Christ, Dorothy
I agree
