Not where I stand

I have not seen leaves turn brown,
Fine mist above a country town
And morning frost on the ground
Flakes of snow, falling all around

I do not heard Angelus bells ring
In autumn, as daylight takes wing
And as October’s sun’s rays die
In the twilight, chirping birds fly

The sounds that some hold so dear
Drums and brass in the air so clear
Souza tunes and a marching band
Alas not for me, not where I stand

I cannot doze on the village green
As mid-summer’s sun casts its sheen
On grassy hills and the dales between
To afternoon breeze, trees gently lean

No lazy river fishing for golden trout
Casting my line where they swim about
Being sure of a catch - without a doubt
And ending the day with a glass of stout

No neighborly chats on summer nights
A daily part of someone else’s delights
I don’t sit in the cool as the kids play
In my neon world it’s a never ending day

So beautiful Dolan

Such a lovely scene portrayed throughout the poem.
And I love the last line..."in my neon world it's a never ending day" Thats exactly how I feel too!
Great writing.

An easier life, and the longing for it

Thank you Linda. One's life is a story of trade-offs and compromise. I would love to live in the country and fish all I can.

But then one can't have all what he wants can he?

Cheers

You're so right!
I'm pretty sure we cant have all we want....just so we can dream...otherwise, maybe we wouldnt.
And dreams are what keeps us going!

Loved This One

I can relate to this one as I love the Country also a beautiful write Dolan, enjoyed it immensely hugs from Willow

Thank you

Thanks Willow. My image of the country is restricted only to a few years of my life with my grand-parents, before my parents, concrete. alsphat and neon took that life away.

Cheers,

Simplicity..

A really beautiful write Dolan, and I believe that we all crave this sense of simplicity, and of nature's wonder in a way. Im a city girl by heart really, but currently live in a small coastal town and very near to countryside, and can honestly say i wouldent trade it for a thing right now so i understand where your coming from.

Debs :.)

Country or City?

I often wonder how country life will feel after living almost all my life in the city. I'm sure there are trade-offs, but I feel its wonders far outweigh its negative points.

Unfortunately, however, I need to live in the city to earn my living.

Thanks for the comment
