Courting Insanity

Come sweet dreamstate, fill my mind with your fantasy.

Wrap your wings around my mind and make that reality.

In that state I am a queen, a pirate, brave deeds unfold.

Many men have I loved, exciting tales I've told.

How unlike my real life state.

Where mediocrity is my constant mate.

Where one day blurs seamlessly into the next,

Mixes like cream in my coffee, I'm vexed.

Till it's all one color a muddy brown,

Staying that way till I'm in the ground.

No bawdy gypsy or knowing mage.

Come dear dreamstate, free me from this cage.

Take me away from this insanity.

Where others expectations are my reality.

Blurr the lines between what I am and what I dream.

Pick at the thread unravel the seam.

So I may be that woman who lives inside.

No longer the one that lives this lie.

Dreamstate reality don't wake me please.

Insanity is preferable to mediocrity.
