Surreality
Empty space, time and dimensions
A place Where clocks have no value
and time no meaning
A place in the mind
with no geographical measures and bonds
The province of fools...
and those seeking redemption
Too much explanation,
too much rationalization
And the world of empty ambition
from which there’s no rest.
A place of chaos, confusion and panic
In the roseate brilliance from fiery forges
Or dim lit sky… bisected by silhouettes of birds
Where the pull of a single thread
Unravels the sweater
And chains chatter coldly
Upon hollow flagpole
Where sands are etched in hieroglyphs
By footprints and talons
And smiles are as brittle as broom straws
While your pulse is akin
To the sound of a kettledrum
In a drear place where sharks circle
With cold patient eyes
And the music is the creaking
Of weather bleached windmills
Tilting endlessly in terminal spaces
Of shadows... pooled in dark, dank places
And lights, like both blades of razors,
and glows of candlelight
in graveyards at night, limn
Slick pools of greasy mirages,
Places of fallow light smudged with fog
Endless time...
empty place
Infinite dimensions…
...of time and space...

I Like 'A mind surreal'.
David,
Seems like I am always praising your work. But why not? It is getting better and better, which is to say, the more I read your poetry, the more I like it. This one triggers fantastic images and scenes.

Give Raskin the credit....
David o Whalen She's my mentor in free verse (which is not my genre). As I replied to Raskin, I think only a few readers will find this to their liking. I like to think of my readers as people that can see, write, and dare to try to understand things a bit beyond the mundane. I believe you to be one of them! Thanks for checking me out and for your time commenting. Appreciate fellow weirdos always. Dare to be different!!
"To much rationalization"
So many good lines. When what you are surrounded by, can be surreal.
The mind can bend to make sense of it. I think your imagery brought that
to the forefront. So much here I can unfortunately understand.
This is poetry David, a very good poem. Sadness permeates,
hopefully this isn't a current state.

I was trying for...
David o Whalen "Dali-esque," Don't know yet if I pulled it off, but it is what it is!! This one will probably appeal to only a select few, and you and Raggin' seem to fit that niche. Thanks for your time Raz, always appreciate ya'
I Love This Sad Poem
David,
I love poems that are sad, painful, and sometime's
dark. Very creative, love the different imagery.
Marin
Thanks Marin (I think)
David o Whalen I've been told by others that some of my stuff can be sadly painful to read, but thanks for being weird enough to read it all the way through! Hope it didn't make you sad. I ways actually trying to write the poetic equivalent of an abstract painting. Did I do it?
Catastrophe theory and Dali
I've been reading up on old masters in poetry and painting. Dali was gifted, he could paint anything
in any style. He was captivated by math theory and I thought that was interesting. I started looking
at his paintings differently and I understood more of what I saw.
I can understand your reference here, you captured a segment of life very well with your
imagery. It is admirable the lines you came up with. You give me more credit then I deserve,
I am only an acolyte. The internet is an amazing tool to investigate and learn, I enjoy that.

Salvador Dali is a Drip!
raskin,
I've never made that connection between Catastrophe Theory and Salvador Dali. His surfaces DO look like the surfaces of Catastrophe Theory. Your Comment title says more than most poems.
raggindragon
I never got it either,
Until I was reading about one of his paintings and the author was writing about Dali's fascination with that
theory. So I looked it up and Dali utilizes the symbolism in his paintings. I think it gave me a different understanding
of his work. It was pretty cool how he used it.

Wonderful
Wonderful wonderings of the mind.. thanks for posting:)
Welcome to the site Anew
David o Whalen and for wandering through my wondering mind with me. I appreciate your kind words and your time taken to comment.
He Look's Like a Drip Dali
RAGGINDRAGON,
I goggled Salvador Dali last night, he
Had a waxed mustache that turned up
6 inches on each side, a spooky looking man,
very creative in all the arts.
Marin.
Dali -- Melting Watches
Hi, marin,
Dali and his paintings always seemed weird to me. Interpreting art is not my forte. When it comes to art, I tend to rather simply categorize painters: Dali is the guy with the melting watches; Magritte -- apples, hats, men floating in the air; Degas, ballerinas, etc. I did once take a course in art appreciation. It did not stick.

David, Great work, I love
David,
Great work, I love the imagery that you always manage to create and this may just be the best yet!
Matt Pence
Welcome Matt...
David o Whalen to this site. Appreciate the kind comment (especially from a young dude). My stuff is kind of a mixture of eccentric, maudlin, flowery, girly-girly and ordinary, and I don't think a lot of people particularly like my style. I think I'm writing in the wrong century and my time is past. Have fun here, and write often and poetically, we need young talented poets! Appreciate you giving me your time. David O (oh!...and dare to be different!)
