The Moth And Me

As the moth flutters in,
Its instincts push from within,
Mine too, were pushing strong,
Mine too, were so very wrong.

Bathed in warmth from the fire,
Floating on waves of desire,
The heat feels, oh so good,
Dancing closer than he should.

I too dance far too close,
Drawn by the flickering glow,
Hypnotised by your light,
On a freezing, lonely night.

As moth moves to the flame,
I would remember the pain,
Of rejection, of hurt,
Stinging ice words that were curt.

The moth has lost all sense,
And I watch with much suspense,
As his wings touch and burn,
I remember lessons I've learned.

As he falls to his death,
And takes a last searing breath,
I snap back to real time,
His costly mistake, once mine.

To be caught in rebound,
Warps perspective of what's found,
To take time and refrain,
Will limit mistakes again.

So in taking my time,
I'm not commiting a crime,
Because one thing I learned,
When in a rush, I get burned.

Hey, Mr Gibbs!

I really like this one, and think its so true of many things. Without clarity of mind, and the blindness of desire we can be led, knowingly or otherwise. This piece speaks of so much, fear, commitment, rejection, and pain. Also a need. Just my thoughts as always, and you know their usually quite philosophical lol!

Take care,

DEbs x

Nice write!

I like this because it proves that when we have made a mistake, the lesson learned comes back to us before we can do it again....and we feel good about making the right choice this time.
very smart way of writing this poem...made me really think!
