The Holocaust
The Holocaust
Heart shattered;
Love, what are you?
Eyes glazed over;
Hope, who are you?
Soul tied and weighted;
Faith – what’s the use?
I am but one in the crowd,
Just a number with no name.
My soul, a block of lead,
My heart naught but vapor.
They’ve abandoned me…
But what matter?
I have survived,
My life I still have-
What need for more?
My parents, who are they?
My friends…what are friends?
Tears…what for?
Death, my companion,
Sorrow, my brother.
They walk with me,
My hand in theirs-
They sustain me,
All I have left.
Eat, sleep, live,
Don’t think, don’t feel;
Fight, march, obey,
Never question,
Never hesitate.
Sleep well, dear child,
Live and laugh-
For Grief’s reign has just begun.
