My Pop (What he taught me)
My Pop
©Guy Hoffman 2009
When I was 11; My Pop said
Picture it in your mind
You're the ruler of your kind
The king of everything
Happiness is what you bring
When I was 20; My Pop said
Your kids will need to know
That the word "No", means "No"
And to never think "if", always think "when"
They will achieve all that they can
When I was 22; My Pop said
Yes, happiness has its critics
They don’t make good friends, no one likes a cynic
They're negative and cold
And they'll quickly get old
When I was 24; My Pop said
Sometimes your gonna feel this way
Like the world is holding you at bay
Trust me, this too will pass
You of all people will always find the greener grass
When I was 25; My Pop said
A few things you should know
Friends and Family, They’ll come and go
Hold them close for the time they're here
Their departure, you should never fear
When I was 26; My Pop said
I'm dying Guy and I want you to know that I'm proud
If I could I'd shout it out loud
But just telling you this way, will have to do
I love you dearly Grandson and I will always be with you
To my Pop, I said
I am who I am because of you
You're my father figure Pop, the person I look up to
If I could I would take this cancer from you
If only just to say thank you for all that you do
I wish I had more years to show you how much I love you!

~Love Complete~
Guy,
This is a very special poem. I loved each verse. It must be awesome to have a Grandfather that loves you so completely! God bless both of you!
Warm regards,
Kathy
Thanks Kathy Very much!
I appreciate you looking Kathy. My Pop was an awesome man! He died in 1996 and this poem was about summing up what he taught me to be and our last conversation. I miss him unbelievably to this day.

Superb quality subject matter!!
Truly moving and sentimental piece!! Superb, quality subject matter. The poem truly succeeded in capturing the element of profound human emotion. Keep up the great work!!
I appreciate that Rex!
I must admit this one has been in the works for sometime now but I wanted it to be "true" to my Pop. So I really took my time and mulled over how I would convey these lessons and his love. Thanks for the kind words. See you in your blog! Peace!
