Ondoy

It rained, it poured in six hours
Your fury was unknown then.
Until you soaked the ground, stirred the winds
And by the gush, you took them like a drifter!

How you thrived with nature's mind
You claimed their precious children
Breaths they numbered by the waves
And wet debris, which gently acted as a shelter!

Right there you tossed the stunted rope
Which, barely pulled the fellows at the far end.
Folks were standing by the bridge, I supposed
To wait if they could make it to the bend!

Whose heart would never break?
Whose soul would never mourn?
That scary scene by the bridge
As you turn their last sail upon the surge of fear!

Deaths as men might judge them
For wise they see to heavens the soul should travel.
Time has anointed at most their eyes believe
Drench souls refuse to be comforted.

"Has God, at second, forgotten men?
Will his eyes of mercy look no more?
Has he ceased to recall being gracious?
Does his promise fail forevermore?"

They call to remembrance tears and rapids,
A hand that offered a safety his life he paid.
How gallant, how noble man's merit shall deserve
As nature rage; unto one's ruins the other lived!

Is He the God who saw all through?
The raging and the sorrow?
Is it His hand that did not let go
And brought the rest to tomorrow?

How people fear the bad days
For good times, we mortals seek
But life's mystery is deep
More noble, higher than we think!

All I did

was pray...
for my family,
for my friends.
and for me.

I am so glad, I got to experience it alone, because, I felt so baptized after. Eventhough, my apartment was soaked in chest-deep flood water, I felt so blessed and happy. Not only was I out of danger but I had the chance to finally have time to be in total silence, in total darkness, with my thoughts, hearing my God speaking.
I was thinking of doing a poem about it. But, after reading your poem, I felt like you wrote every single thing I was thinking, feeling and fearing. So, mine won't be needed any longer.
Thanks for a very honest write, Claire!

Eric
