Gift
Gifts gathered
Beneath our Christmas tree
Lovely wrappings, ribbons in curlicue!
These blinking lights
Our ticking clock
Frisked to tease my jealous eyes.
Nothing there
Someone forgot
To send a thought for me!
Hanged around
With wishful thinking
Just maybe late…perhaps never!
Then I strolled outside
Three blocks away
Enough to spot a view
From where I left…
There lay a gift
Too big to wrap for me!

A happier Christmas
Interesting word choice in the line --
Frisked to tease my jealous eyes.
I don't know that I'm quite on top of it.
I like the storyline fashion of the piece. I know some poets avoid that type of thing but poetry should allow for it at times, I think.
