Emotions

Aren't emotions such a wonderful thing?
I so love the feelings that love can bring,
What good is a heart if it cannot sing?

What good is a soul without its voice?
You can't enjoy life if you can't rejoice,
I would choose 'to feel' if given the choice.

Today I felt such a tide of emotion
Wash over me; such a positive potion,
For one can't surf on a waveless ocean.

Food's not delicious if it has no taste,
Good wine is not savored if drunk in haste,
Life without emotion would be a waste.

I'm grateful to feel all that which I feel,
Without emotion, life wouldn't seem real,
I want no heart of stone, nor nerves of steel.

I wish to appreciate all that I find,
With ears that hear, and eyes that aren't blind,
And I live to love with my heart, soul and mind.

Beautiful

"I want no heart of stone, nor nerves of steel" ♥

Not Superman

Dear Jennifer, thanks so much. I often wished for a heart of stone, during times of emotional turmoil, like when a relationship breaks up for example. I have also wished for nerves of steel, when having to give a speech or a performance. But afterwards I realized that those experiences were far more memorable and enjoyable to look back on due to the emotions I felt at the time. I have accepted that emotions are the rich flavors of a heart that feels, and I embrace them. It's good to feel comfortable with one's emotions. Warmest regards, Chris

The Notion of Emotion

I work in a Christian wedding chapel, and the other day I witnessed a bride and groom unabashedly kissing and showing their love for each other in front of their families and friends during their wedding ceremony. This was unusual for conservative Japan, and it brought whoops and cheers from those gathered there for this special event. It even made me a bit teary, and I chided myself for getting emotional. Then I realized just how wonderful it was to 'feel' these emotions, and how boring and 'dead' my life and/or my world would be if I didn't experience any emotions. I'm not a SNAG (sensitive new age guy) or anything like that. I'm 49 years of age, but I still have strong feelings and don't shy away from them. I think emotions make our life rich, and memories are much more colorful and long lasting due to the emotions that flow through them. Emotions are what make us human. I also believe that we couldn't be effective poets without emotional input. Kind regards,

Chris

Agreed

I totally agree! After all we are warm blooded human beings. Whether we want them or not, feeling are a part of us.

Love this

Wow I love this. It's so full of...emotion. I love the message also, one that you don't see too often Usually someone
is complaining about a pain they're feeling,a sadness they can't get rid of, but YOU! You embrace these feelings
which are part of life. I'm so glad you have written this. It's a good reminder to us all to be grateful for every
breath we have, even if its full of pain, because it's real. This poem reminds me of my favorite quote that I think
is by Leo Tolstoy from his book,"War and Peace" though I've yet to find it in that book.I saw it at the end of the
movie though, "The most difficult thing, but essential one, is to love life, to love it even while one suffers,
because life is all. Life is God and to love life means to love God."
Magical poem!
God Bless!Abigail Joy

The Vicissitudes of Life

Dear Abigail,

I am so very grateful to receive your feedback on my poem. Thanks for your kind and generous comments. You got it - you really understood what I was trying to say: emotions, good or bad, make our life what it is; they give it color and enhance our memories. Just as we love a movie that has both 'goodies' and 'baddies', and we love music that has moments of passionate energy and moments of quiet, we love 'feeling' emotions both joyous and melancholy. What good would a DVD collection be if it only had comedy, or only action - there has to be a few tear-jerkers as well, be it human drama or moving historical pieces, and of course the rare but special spiritual movie. Our bodies thrive on a balanced diet, and our hearts and souls thrive on a balance of emotional experiences. To deny those feelings is to deny our humanity. I loved your quote from "War and Peace" - it hits the nail on the head. Thanks again for your thoughtful response - much appreciated. Have a great week, take care, and God bless.

Best regards,

Chris

Who said romance is dead?

Leaking Pen
Wow Chris, your heart on fire, your poem full of summer's desires, you managed to implode new hopes, new life in the making, and to think you are the blesser of such unions, it reflects back into your poetry, you are a man who is alive, including your favorite wine drink, life is grand when you witness at first hand Love sparks in front your eyes, some creative inventive verses "one cannot surf a waveless wave" Australia beckons you, "Life without emotion" "No heart of Stone" I can write a love thesis on the immigrate here, to make less money and bless love then to bless death in a funeral home and fill you coffers with silver coins!

Romanticism Rocks!

G'day Paul!

Who said 'romance' is dead? Not me! Without it, we'd be 'all at sea'. LOL. Overly romantic poetry can be sickly sweet at times, but 'romanticism' in poetry is practically a requisite! Heh. People like you and I and Kathy thrive on romantic notions in our poetry. Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments regarding my poem, and my new vocation - much appreciated, my good friend.

Have a great day, take care, and best wishes.

Truly,

Chris
