The Landing at Normandy

Off of the
landing craft
and running
into danger

Bullets flying
all around like
a hive of
angry bees

Fellow soldiers
falling all around

And medics running
all over taking
care of wounded

The shooting
of rifles
and the
barking of machine guns

Screaming
and yelling
all around you

Fear rising
in you like
a balloon
with every step

Not knowing
if the next
step will be
your last

Yet you
push onward
Through the sand
the barriers
and past
the bodies
of fallen comrades

Pushing yourself
to the limit
to survive
and stay alive

As General Sherman
said
"War is hell"

Captivating

it was like I was there in the war field, running through the chaos while reading...a deep poem, like you're only seeing a smidgen of what it's like-"War is hell" the truest word. Amazing piece, keep it up! :D ♥

Thank You

Thank you Jewel, that means a lot coming from a fellow poet.
