Summer Sky
There is nothing quite so perfect
As a Arizona summer sky.
In the morning,
When the air is cool and clean.
From mountain to mountain
It's a bold clear blue,
And no cloud can be seen.
But come mid morning,
With the sun is overhead,
The valley is bright and warm,
Vapors start to gather
Just above the mountain top,
And the soft clouds begin to form.
It's just about noon,
And storm clouds gather,
Massive towers in the sky,
White and gleaming as they billow high.
Moisture laden, pearly gray,
Their giant shadows roll the valley floor.
Time moves on, the sky is blackened,
Now it grows cool and dark
Lightning flashes,
Thunder echoes all around.
In the heavens, clouds are opened
And the rains begin to fall,
Life givin’ water to the ground.
It only last minutes, then it's gone.
Once again, the air is clear,
As the thunderhead rolls out of the valley
And after the darkness
Gleams a rainbow, arching high,
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet
Adding glory to the summer sky.
But there's more, for now it's evening,
And the scattered remaining clouds,
Hang thinly, like a vale,
Now a canopy of color,
Purple, flaming red and crimson
As the sun descends to the west
And puts the day to rest.
After dark, a final splendor,
Above, stars by the millions
With a slice of silver moon.
How I love the Arizona summer sky.
