Cattle Day Relic

It was stiff as a board,
But when I was huntin' strays
I carried it tied to the back of my saddle
All ready for winter storms or rain
And it was my salvation when I was on
My pony out in the mud
Carried on many a round-up
It was big and roomy
It kept me dry when the rain was comin’ down
I wore it when the sky was black and gloomy
It covered me from my feet to my crown.
No matter how muddy
Or cold and unpleasant the storm
Or how strong winds where gustin’ and cold
It would kept me warm!
It never yet failed to perform.
That old friend which now
Hangs on the bunkhouse wall
Its range life is ended
No more does the cattle trail call.
But now I dream in the summer sunsets
And there in the campfire embers which flicker
I catch a faint glimpse of the herds that were roamin'
And think of times gone before
A cattle day relic I'll never forget!

Now that you have read this, tell me what is the relic?
