Crazy Cat Lady (or, to hell with dating)

I think that I shall become
A Crazy Cat Lady
When my son grows up and
Leaves home

I shall open my doors
And set out bowls of food and water
For the strays and lost little kitties
And soon they will become my little loves
Tabby and calico and siamese alike

And I shall collect them
Two and three at a time
And give them names like
Buttons and Mittens and Snowball
And I will love them every one

And I shall wear ill fitting sweatpants and ugly sweaters
And let my hair grow wild
I'll wander the grocery store aisles
Muttering to myself all the while
And spend my paychecks on Fancy Feast and Purina Cat Chow

And I shall never know how many I have
But I will know that they all love me, and need me
When they meow and run figure eights through my legs
And my house will be filled with the pungent aroma
Of a house with too many damn cats
But I shall not even notice

And I shall have my sweet little darlings
Strolling atop my countertops
And napping on my bed
And snuggled in my lap
I will gaze at them adoringly, every one

Yes, I do think I shall become a Crazy Cat Lady
Because frankly,
I am finding this whole relationship thing
Is just too complicated for me

Your "cat" poem

Love this poem. Aren't animals, especially cats, wonderful to have and love!

Yes they are!

I'm so glad you liked it! I have two cats now and I do adore them. The affection of animals is precious indeed. Thanks for commenting!

cat ladies

Every neighborhood has one... Funny poem. I think you've got a good perspective on the whole thing.

Hey if someone's gotta do it...

...may as well be me. Thanks for the comments, neocon. I appreciate you reading my stuff!
