Christmas Cards
What’s the point of a Christmas card?
Really I think they should be barred
Coming through the door from the postman’s sack
Then stuck on the wall with a bit of blue tack
Little messages of seasonal greetings
Handwritten promises of future meetings
All these words sounding so sincere
We never see them from year to year
All that money spent on stamps
Give it instead to the local tramps
Christmas ends they’re all thrown out
Lots more rubbish we can do without
Bah humbug I hear you say
Well I’d ban all cards if I had my way!

When I was young my mum used to get us to cut all the pictures out on the front of the cards after christmas, so they could be used as gift tags the following year. People don't do that anymore do they? As you say, they're all just thrown away. Now I'm sounding really old!!!!! Lol.
Enjoyed the read,
Dave
We used to do this to, using
We used to do this to, using those pinking scissors, to make a crinkly effect. I don't ever remember us using them though the following year. I may start cutting this years ones up now as they come in, at least they will go to good use.
Thanks for reading and commenting Dave.

Andrew
You just helped me make up my mind about sending out cards this year. THANK you thank you thank you. I get tired just thinking about it because inevitably i wait til dec. 20th and then stay up all friggin night to write them all out. and you are so right...for what? id rather pick up the phone...and talk.
now i think i will take that money i will be saving... and go out and buy myself a nice little emerald colored dress for the holidays that ive wanted...andrew, great write and very helpful!!! LOL
Linda
Good for you Linda, go out
Good for you Linda, go out and get that dress, and ring every one instead of sending them a card, that is a much better idea.
Thanks for your comment.

Debs x
LOL
I do hope your joking Debs!!! I have a friend also called Debs (not that that is important) who is like one of the Wombles, every time we used to go out for a walk, she would return home with bags full of rubbish to recycle, that she had picked up. Then at Christmas she would send out over a couple of hundred cards, I could never understand this, she has now seen the error of her ways, and this year will send no cards.
Thanks for your comment and a Merry Christmas to you to.
Andrew
PS Your card's in the post!
PPS 7 billion greetings cards are purchased in America and 2 billion in the UK each year... Oh no I'm starting to sound like an enviromentalist now!!!
Only half joking...
Only half joking i'm keeping it down to 200 this year, but on a serious note...what about ol' aunt fanny sitting lonesome in her house after the death of her husband, and with her daughters recent emergration to Oz she is counting on that one single christmas card!.. Besides she hasn't got a phone because she can't afford one and then there's all the service men and women to consider...
Debs :.)
200!!
I don't think I know 200 people. You have got me thinking about Aunt Fanny, and I think there is a fair case for her to get her Christmas card, although I think it was a bit unkind of her daughter to emigrate so soon after the death of her father. Service personell is a fair point as well, if I was in their situation I would look forward to recieving mail.

good poem Andrew
I do say this often, each year but still send cards for I would hate it, if we didn`t get any at all, yes the postage is getting expensive but what the heck, it is only once a year, and it does look festive with them all up ,I put mine all down the staircase in the hall.so as we come in the door from outside, they are there to greet us,close family ones take pride of place in the lounge on the mantel piece. wouldn`t look the same without them hugs from Willow,
My wife does this to, and
My wife does this to, and every time the front door is opened, some fall down!
Thanks for reading.

Very funny
I loved reading it a lot, especially the last two lines! As for Christmas cards themselves, my brother is very strict about sending them out to everyone we know (note that I'm the one who writes them-not him!) because he says it makes people feel good if they're on their own over the holidays, but for friends we see every day we just say merry Christmas. Besides, some people we know don't celebrate Christmas anyway and consider it rude if you give them a card or present. Sometimes, cards are more hassle than they're worth, but not all the time! ♥
Thanks Jewel
Thanks Jewel. I think now after reading all the comments, it should be like most things, cards in moderation.
Thanks for the comment.
