The Pinkins Tree

Have you met families that were scattered abroad,
Not knowing were their loves one’s were during slavery?
Or just to how many were left or how many were born?

There exist a legacy of our family we should always adore ,
In many ways because through our history we can always explore,
The ways of our yesterday’s , our present and what lies ahead…

Our family called Pinkins that began by two slaves being set free,
From the misspelling of one name which was originally Picknies…
With a touch of fate he chose the name Pinkins, this name became our destiny.

Now we gather ourselves together sharing a reunion of our roots,
Because there is a need for us to become stronger and stay firm as one!
Our history is one the should always be honored even placed into books.

Many black families were fragmented in the advent of the slave trade…
God has given us the ability to come back together for this we are blessed.
Now this is more than a reunion this is God’s will that has been accomplished!

From the grounds of Eulonia Georgia, one brother being set free settled in Eufaula Alabama,
Hence the Pinkins name was established; as a name for this entire family,
Oh what kindness God has allowed us to have, by having this seed to begin our family tree.

As a family we have accomplished a bond from the diaspora, and we have our love a joy for God,
Even through a scattered storm; God has brung us together and blessed us to remain as one!
That through our example, our history we can share to the world what glory God has done.

The scriptures has this verse;
“He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots-
By the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always-
Green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."

My beloved Pinkins family, in our history and unity we should rejoice and give praise!
That a tree for our family was indeed planted by the water, a tree that has given us fruit!
We are here to embrace each other and to straighten and strengthen our family roots!

And that when there is another one born into our family, a clear sign we are born free!
By the leaves and roots of a tree that was planted by the river a tree bearing fruit!
To harvest and give new grain to the Pinkin’s family, let us continue to prosper in our destiny.

We have come a long way from 1863 let us be bold and cherish our legacy,
Let us always stay in touch, no matter how near or far, we are a blessed progeny!
Praise be to God and to that one blessed seed, we thank you for our reunion and our destiny…

For giving us our name and the Pinkins Family to trace our beginning and roots!
So to our family I say celebrate the young and the old, remember your history!
We stand together now as a family because of that one special tree;

A tree bearing blessings, love and good fruits...

Amen…
