I am woman
From the depths of the red earth
I emerged
A feral in light
An unknown in darkness
Cursed with the burden of life …
And death
I am woman
An entity devoid of simplicity
Molded with imperishable clay
By immortal hands first
And later …much later
By inspired mortal hands;
Hands which violated my humanity
Mocked my identity,
Enslaved me with phallic principles
Once …yet
I am woman
Named Frailty by the Art of the Elizabethans
Elegantly crafted in verses
Brought to life as blooming roses,
Disguised maidens
Devouring love-sick courtiers
I am woman
Born of another who bore the markings
I often shield
