Nothing Is Freedom

Peering out of my window I see two squirrels playing tag
The world is theirs
Yet nothing they have
They have found true success
Living in the moment
Not in excess
No trendy fashion to discard as the seasons change
A diamond isn’t the female’s favorite thing
No fancy cars to take them away
Each foot placed with intent to their destination
A healthy diet
No daily plans
The captain of their fate commandeering the land
Playfully enjoying this moment before it ends
Snares lie in wait but
Freedom supersede the negative possibilities
Big round eyes that sees my encroachment
I’m watching them wandering
I’m wondering if they are watching
Me
No they are too busy being free
Why do I feel trapped?
The bricked walls with security that I call my lovely home
From there I’m locked in my fancy car
once exited I set the alarm
My office is in a building where a guard monitors the first floor
My files are locked behind closed doors
I signed a contract saying I do
My words weren’t enough to prove
Trained daily to the zoo’s routine
Alarm clock rings
the previous day resume
